Here’s ours, we’ve had it 18 months and just spent our 16th night in it. Surprised at how much she likes it. Home made rack on Retrax pro cover.

That's what I am wanting to do, be able to still open and close my retractable cover, and also allow me into the garage. When completly closed down it has to be no higher than the whale tail for garage clearance (6.5 foot door) if it can be removed easily for bed loads that's a plus.

No, what I'm saying is the contours of the bed side interior limit how much room you actually have to install the brackets. On the 5' bed, you can't actually center the rack front to back on the bed because of the interior bed contours. I've highlighted on this image what I'm talking about. The bed brackets only fit onto the truck in the space highlighted by the blue line.

I actually bought the 58" RCI rack as oppose to the 48" nearly everyone gets for the 5 foot bed. It works, even with C-Clamps all the way near the tailgate. Granted the metal thins out back there, but it works FYI.

Also you can still do an over the cab platform. We've had this discussion, you just need to take initiative and build you a sub-platform to raise it to pass over height. Unistrut works wonders for this, also as the picture shows.

What's NOT to like about this photo!

What would be your biggest issues with the Roofnest?
I'm about to order a voodoo bed rack that's 14 inches in height. Your seems higher ,is it?

My Roofnest Eagle in action near Zion this past weekend. Some mixed feelings on it but generally pretty positive and it means we can wake up in places like this.

Could that tent be more flush with cab or would it have to be over the cab? Looking for a more low profile look

Meant to post this last year. Better late than never.
I bought a 2019 Ranger in May '20 and spent that summer dreaming of accessories and frequenting this site to fill those dreams.
Spring '21 was when I pulled the trigger on the Leitner ACS Forged rack and the Roofnest Condor XL tent. No regrets, and zero wind noise or whistling.
The first pictures is the Leitner rack the evening I installed it, with my 198k mile '04 Ranger in the background. The second picture is a closer side view of the Leitner rack on the new Ranger. The third picture was the inaugural camping trip. Slept so much better than being on the ground.

The last photo is RTT related: I made a ceiling hoist to get the tent easily on and off the truck. Missing from that photo are the safety chains I installed that keep the tent securely on the ceiling should something happen to the ropes. But then I upgraded the ceiling hoist plate from wood to steel... just because.

I had 10 great years with a Howling Moon RTT from South Africa - yup, 4-5 years before RTTs became a thing here - Loved it a whole bunch! Super quality, bomber canvas, and tough! Ran it on top of a 2006 Xterra. Now we have gone in a different direction - OvrLnd Popup camper shell on top of our new Ranger - three nights into it and loving it a whole bunch more!! https://campovrlnd.com/

If i was to buy another RTT, I'd go with Cascadia - CVT out of Bend, Or.

Very nice! Glad the Condor XL is working for you.

Would like to learn more about the construction of your ceiling hoist.
Can you provide a link to this? I am looking to build a tent hoist and I like this solution...
The Amazon item numbers for all the parts, except the unistrut related stuff, are:
  • qty(1) B08HHH7BFF, winch plate
  • qty(1) B083Q5HX17, but comes in a 4-pack, this is the pully back in the corner of the wall
  • qty(4) B07P6Q8JQ7, comes in a 4-pack, one for each corner of the ceiling hoist
  • qty(1) B0749GHCKH, hand winch
  • qty(2) B00QBD1WEI, to direct the ropes from the ceiling corners to the wall corner pully
  • qty(1) B00ZJEW27Q, although I didn't need 500ft to complete the project, I just wanted extra for other projects in the future
For the unistrut, it was a couple 10ft sticks plus I had to use a bit extra to get around a existing ceiling conduit. I used some cone and/or spring nuts inside the strut for bolting the pulleys onto.
Each ceiling corner pulley is qty(2) 1/4-in bolts, while the double "redirect" pulleys are qty(1) 1/2-in bolt. You will want to use the strut washers or large fender washers bolted between the corner pulleys and the ceiling strut. Hopefully you can see all that in the picture I posted before and in this post.
The each ceiling strut is bolted to the wood trusses above with qty(4) Hillman 5/16-in x 3-in Bronze Ceramic Round-Head Exterior Lag Screws (got those at Lowes).
The unistrut under the RTT has some eyebolts through a cone nut, tack welded into place for good measure.

I hope that helps you craft an RTT ceiling hoist of your own.

Yakima Skyrise on an Overhaul HD rack on my new 2021.

I may swap out for the Outpost HD rack, to lower the tent about 6" (reduce my center of gravity and wind resistance) We'll see. I do like the option of carrying longer items like kayaks over the cab with the Outpost rack.

I've only tested it on the driveway. In a couple weeks I'm going cross country and it will get some real use ?

Did you end up keeping the overhaul hd rack? How was it worked out for you?

Nope, I swapped it for the Outpost HD rack, as you can see in my profile picture. Much better, IMHO unless you want to carry items over the cab, like a kayak, canoe or lumber.
