Anyone have any pictures of brackets to install awnings for the RTT racks that are below roof height?
I need to figure this out...

Awesome, thanks! How much higher do you think you'd need to go to get the top of the rack just above the roof of the cab? The tents I'm looking at are all hardtops and longer so I'm trying to get the rack high enough to clear the roof enough I can have some of the overhang above the cab and not all hanging off the back.
The length is dependent on the inside length of the bedrail. If you pop your tailgate you'll see you loose about 6" of bed rail due to the interior contours of the bed sides.I'm in the same boat as you, and I was leaning towards a 18 or 19" as well. One, because I want some of the RTT to be able to overhang the cab a tiny bit and not have it all overhanging the bed. And two, because anything over 18" will still allow folks driving behind you to still see the third brake light. Yes, there will be additional drag when using an 18" xtrusion rack PLUS the height of any RTT but if you're like me, you're only going to be hauling the RTT occasionally or maybe only a few months out of the year so its not a big worry for fuel economy. One thing I'm a bit confused about is why the Supercrew (5' bed) defaults to the 48" rack length on the Xtrusion site. Even though the bed is 5', wouldn't you want the extra length from the 6' bed version which is 58"?? The 58" rack would or at least SHOULD still fit on the 5' bed right?? I would just think you'd want the extra length especially since some of these RTT's are pretty long (thinking iKamper, Roofnest, etc).
I agree about the length. I've found the people at Xtrusion to be pretty responsive to questions; they're looking at how to mount an Alu-cab RTT now for me. And yes, I don't want to leave the RTT up all the time either.I'm in the same boat as you, and I was leaning towards a 18 or 19" as well. Maybe I’m totally misunderstanding you, but I think you’re talking about width and not length in that case no?The length is dependent on the inside length of the bedrail. If you pop your tailgate you'll see you loose about 6" of bed rail due to the interior contours of the bed sides.

No, what I'm saying is the contours of the bed side interior limit how much room you actually have to install the brackets. On the 5' bed, you can't actually center the rack front to back on the bed because of the interior bed contours. I've highlighted on this image what I'm talking about. The bed brackets only fit onto the truck in the space highlighted by the blue line.M

Ooooohhhhhhh. That makes a lot more sense. Appreciate the additional explanation!! Shoot so that makes my idea more difficult or maybe impossible idk. So what RTTs can you actually fit up there then if you only have 48” of rack space to accommodate anything. Even the smallest RTT by Roofnest is 60” when it’s closed which is why I was hoping to be able to use the 6’ bed version of the rack which is 58” long and I’d only have 2 inches of overhang which could easily be accommodated over the cab.No, what I'm saying is the contours of the bed side interior limit how much room you actually have to install the brackets. So at 15" high with my rack, I was able to center my smallest size Smittybilt on the rack and I can have access all around it to deploy it. I deploy mine off the back of the truck so I can fit in the width of a standard parking spot. Putting up the rain fly poles is a little tight at the front of the bed/rear of the cab because of the space. But I have room for a larger tent. I'm sorry, I couldn't tell you what size I could go up to; I just don't know.Ooooohhhhhhh. That makes a lot more sense. Appreciate the additional explanation!! if what you’re saying is accurate; what RTTs are compatible with a 48” rack? That seems really small.I guess I could use a 60” RTT on a 48” rack but that sounds like a lot of overhang in either direction. I would be concerned about even weight distribution at that point.
Here are some better pics of my RTT on the rack so you can see how I've got it mounted. I could've moved it back several inches but I'm good with how it's all mounted it.Ooooohhhhhhh. Exactly. They secure to the rack with t-nuts dropped into the slots. They're helpful for climbing all over the truck. At the age of 41 I'm already experiencing sore knees! I'm also considering adding a locking Otter box style box to the driver side for more gear storage. What are the handles on the rack uprights for?
Grab handles to make climbing up and dealing with gear easier?
Thanks again for the detail - very helpful!!Here are some better pics of my RTT on the rack so you can see how I've got it mounted. I could've moved it back several inches but I'm good with how it's all mounted it.

I've never done it but I'd say it's possible. I'd be sketched out sleeping in places like that - I'm a bit security obsessed!I'm interested in some kind of rig like this for sleeping in Walmart parking lots and public rest areas. Anyone have any luck doing that?
(Sorry if this has been addressed already. I don't have time to read through 11 pages ?)
I'm less worried about the well-lit, 24-hour Walmart parking lot than I am about an interstate highway rest stop. Mainly because I don't want some cop to think I'm cruising ?I've never done it but I'd say it's possible. I'd be sketched out sleeping in places like that - I'm a bit security obsessed!
