Rear Brakes: Fact or BS?

I too had a 90 SHO! One of the most fun cars I've ever owned, but yea, the quality of the car around that engine was sad. You didn't mention clutch... I guess you avoided that. Mine failed before 50K.

I now recall mine was a 1991 but same clutch issue, I got mine to last 80k miles, however soon after the warranty expired (12/12 IICR) the locating arm for the shift mechanism dropped off the car , the bolt was cross threaded but at the factory they simply used thread sealant to secure it, the quality of the car was horrendous. I think getrag did the tranny but maybe Ford the clutch.

This is exactly what my rear rotors looked like - I replaced the pads and rotors with Powerstop ones and the shudder is gone. I didn't touch the fronts - they still have lots of pad left and no shudder.

Which Powerstop rotors and pads did you go with?

I went with these although if I had it to do over I'd probably not do the drilled/slotted rotors. I'm a little worried dirt, etc might get in the slots. But so far, they are working great.

Those look horrible. I have 83k on stock set. Still good pad life when rotated at 80k. Might be something amiss there.

Rear caliper sliders tend to stick. Same thing happed on mine a couple years ago, they caught it at state inspection. Inner pads were shot but the outers were fine. Got new pads, they lubed the sliders, did not need new rotors. It's been fine since.

Although my slider pins were moving “ok”, after cleaning the old lube and re-lubing with silicone ceramic, they moved WAY better.

I am going to do the fronts today and flush the whole system and bleed with fresh DOT4.

Took the Ranger to the local dealership for shudder in the rear end. I had looked at the rotors and saw 0 wear on the outboard faces but major wear on the inboard faces and thought I had seized calipers.
I was told by the tech that the calipers were ok and it was just normal wear….all Ford trucks’ rear brakes are like that and I could only expect 50k-60k kilometres.
Fact or BS???

My rear rotors are warped. Rather, they warp under heat. When i start a drive I can get 2-3 hard brakes, but after I'll get a bit of shudder. Plenty of life on the pads, rotor looks fairly clean. Just shit rotors from the factory I think.

I'll be upgrading them when I do my first set of pads/rotors (at 58K miles, still have some meat on the pads).

7 is the reason I bought an extended warranty. Shudders, delay on engagement, etc. all present at 40K miles. Just hope it shits itself before my extended warranty ends.
