Hey all,

Anyone here running the RCI skid plates in either aluminum or steel? Would love to see some pictures (aside from RCI website) and get an idea of how you like them in general. Having trouble finding anyone who has these on the forum.

Thanks!

I want to say they are fairly new and someone here has yet to install them. Could be wrong though. That said, for strentght you.would want to go steel. For weight saving keep the plastic ans it hold up just fine.

@Frenchy thanks for your input! They seem solid. I’ll probably go with the steel, I’ve got a lot planned for this summer and would prefer the peace of mind lol.

Their aluminum trans plate is only 18lbs(according to them) and steel is 38lbs.
Shouldn't be much for our little turbo 4 bangers.

You could always go with a combination.
Steel plates for the transmission pan and transfercase, light aluminum for the rest. Keep the costs down whilst keeping protection.

If you hit a rock hard enough to break through aluminum, good chance that steal plate isn't going to do much better. At that point you'll be ripping it off the corners where they bolt in.

I have them in aluminum and they “feel” stout. I put them to the test at our local ORV area and didn’t notice any concerns.

They are ok but a couple things to note. You lose about an inch of ground clearance. The front does not use stock mounts as they use an adapter that goes between the tow hooks and frame. I don’t like this but I’m no engineer so they might have had a reason for this.

I don’t think it looks as good as the FX4 but I wanted the cohesiveness and protection of the entire skid plate.

ignore the front winglets.. they will go as soon as I put on an ARB bumper in a couple weeks.

I have the complete RCI skid system in raw aluminum.
Outstanding quality, fit and finish. Nothing needed to be modified, drilled or forced to install.
Upon installation I immediately noticed the truck was more solid driving over rough roads. As if the suspension was absorbing the imperfections in the road and not being transferred throughout the entire frame structure.

Yes. In some ways you lose potential ground clearance, but gain protection for front differential.

Yes. I'm missing a bolt on the right side. Replaced at this time.

Gas tank skid is outstanding. The stock plastic skid provides little protection.

I hope these photos and description are useful.

Looks good! Noted on the ground clearance. I haven’t looked at the OEM one until now. Will probably choose between the two. Thanks for sharing

Looks great!! I’m having trouble deciding if I want the powder coat aluminum or steel. Agreed that the protection is worth sacrificing a small bit of ground clearance. I appreciate you sharing these detailed pics as well

I went with the raw aluminum to save money. Chose aluminum over steel for less weight. I have a winch plus tools and recovery gear and don't want to give up too much of the carrying capacity.

Can't go wrong with any of the three options. RCI is providing a great product.

I have the steel skids. I don't have any pictures, for some reason... But they are stout as heck. I haven't hit them yet, but I am not concerned. I will get getting the tank skid, at some point. @AndyMedic has the full suit of skids too.

I ordered a set of the aluminum skids a little over 2 months ago. RCI originally said it would take six weeks to ship. I called RCI two weeks ago to get an update and they said that they would ship the next week. Two weeks later and no e-mail or tracking info has been sent to me as of yet? I'm excited to get the product, but the company hasn't been very good with their communication or shipping times with my order.

I had to wait awhile to receive mine.
But well worth the wait.
Packaging is very well done.

I have them. They seem stout. I’m sure I’ll bash them a few times this year and see how they hold up.
