Guys, Thanks so much for the Parking Brake work with Redline. I've been all over the internet looking for a leather replacement and was about to come here to research, but saw a picture in my web search with the cracking issue, clicked it, and it brought me here anyways. I got my 2020 XLT on October 31st, 2020 and the cracking started around 8,000 miles (now have 10,500 mi.). I'm in Settle and the pleather sleeve was always stiff no matter the temperature. Also someone mentioned if you give your e-mail and walk away for a day they send you a 10% off code. Their site offered it to me as soon. as I clicked the button to look at the bi-color options. Anyways should be here in a month. Just wanted to express my gratitude, especially because the price was reasonable. Now just need to wait for the shifter knob version to come out, and maybe the arm rest.

Thanks again and see you around.

Did you find it fairly easy to replace?
Pretty easy, take your time. Not hard at all.

To remove the original, start in the back, pull up and work your way around. Once you see how it works, it makes sense. Remove the boot off the old ring, install the new one. I uses a dap or two of Gorilla glue, and then set it in the sun to cure. Install and done. Maybe 30 mins. I took my time.

What will surprise you, is that your boot comes in a FedEx envelope from Poland.

Yes they are. Wilmington, Delaware. Looks the sewers are in Poland, so does that mean European cows for the leather? :)

Came a lot quicker than some of my domestic shipments.

I can't see how that is cost efficient. They must take all orders and do customer service in Delaware, then when it comes to production, just send specs to Poland. At least it's not Communist China.

FWIW, I was taught by my mechanic father-in-law to always use the parking brake on manual transmissions (for obvious safety reasons).
His opinion on automatics was, either always use it or always don't. His logic was that the parking brake cable was the weakest point. If you choose to exercise that cable on a regular basis, you should not have any issues. But if you never used the parking brake (ie years), and then decide to use it that one time, it's usually that one time when the cable breaks from the lack of use (not stretched, seized, rusted, etc.) Any parking brakes he repaired were usually on vehicles where the owner had not used it on a regular basis. I personally use it when on any incline/decline just as habit.

As far as the parking pawl...it's a hit or miss. Sounds like the manufacturing of that piece over the years has been affected by cost cutting and poor manufacturing processes like everything else.
Awesome to see your dad's advice. My dad said the same and mentioned that an unused cable could also be rusty and get stuck if pulled.

Redline boot is on. Looks like factory and as expected much higher quality, way more flexible. This is their black regular leather and silver thread.
That looks great - thanks for the pics. =)
