From autoweek, some sobering stats on the old gen taco:

But it might not have needed any of that because even in its eight-year-old third-gen self it has absolutely stomped the competition. While most every other midsize pickup competitor has lost sales this year, Toyota Tacoma actually went up, despite pretty much everyone on the planet knowing it was going to be all-new by year’s end. Good bargains to be had?

Through September Toyota moved 179,681 Tacomas off dealer lots, an increase of 2.2% over the same period in 2022. That’s almost three times more than the number-two competitor Ford Maverick and number-three Chevy Colorado.

I've never owned a Toyota and probably won't but gotta acknowledge success

Unfortunately for me, I just really do NOT like the look of the new Taco. Fortunately though, my Ranger will be paid off next month and I hopefully won't have to worry about buying a vehicle for a long long time.

I've had 2, a 84 corolla sport that I drove the piss out of commuting, driving it 60 miles each way at 80 mph. It had just shy of 300k when I donated it, and really didn't have any issues with it.

I had a pre-taco 4x4 93 'pickup', which is all they called it then. It was a good ride, and while I didn't drive it much it sat in the weather and after 25 years it started to rust. I decided it was time to get rid of it while it still had some value, and man, when I listed it people were fighting to buy it. A contractor called me and said he'd buy it site unseen, but I already had someone coming to look at it, and he bought it for asking price.

Sounds Ike they got the Taco right this time.

That said, doesn't change the fact that it is still a toyota. :surprised:
Toyota's are bad arse. Like I said if I did not need a truck I would have got another rav4 hybrid. I would like to see the gas mileage and tq with the new taco in a hybrid system...

Toy's nav and info center blows away fords sync system. The climate controls are way better than the rangers, but the F150 blows both them both the water.

I will wait to see the new taco in a couple of years and have a look. Might be a trade in the future. LOL

I agree - although I don't really care for the looks of the 6G Ranger either - with that said, neither of them have something my Ranger has - no payments!

Seriously, at this point the only thing that will get me to consider trading is a plugin hybrid, with significantly better mileage. I'm extremely happy with my Ranger and you can't beat no payments!

Best way to be is no payments and why I pay cash for stuff. I hate owing money to people. LOL

I just don't like the new styling myself. I'll probably still go with the frontier whenever I get the chance to trade.

Much improved looks. And looks like much improved power train options. Probably got a lot of competition from the Ranger and took note. Still a no for me. My '21 looks and performs awesome.

First off, I am a Ford guy through and through. However, before I bought my '19 Ranger I did at least sit in all mid-size trucks at the North American Auto Show. The Taco was my only other vehicle I was giving thought about. Two things made my decision easy. First one is, the drivers seat sits so low in the cab that it was just not comfortable for me. Secondly, the poor fuel mileage sealed the deal. As I sat in the Taco my only thoughts were that yes, it will last "forever" but the uncomfortable driver's seat would make me hate every mile of it. I absolutely love my Ranger. 67k miles and counting, no component failures of any kind. Is the Ranger "perfect", no, but no vehicle is.

One thing is a given, Toyota will continue to lead the sales charts with the Tacoma if history is an indicator.
