I've made this point in other threads, but it remains relevant.
If Ford doesn't build, advertise, or promote the truck, expecting to compete in sales is just silly. To then offer any assessment of product viability based on those metrics becomes ridiculous. Ranger has been (imho) a better product. Now it's gonna be a whole new comparison between new Ranger and new Taco. I hope Ford starts getting it. I'm encouraged by that Ranger ORV concept. Maybe Ford is realizing that Ranger is a viable platform in N.A. Maybe they see what people like us are doing to/with our trucks and are concerned about.
We'll see, I guess.
I think one would have to get a look at how much money Ford devotes to each segment and specific models, Ford's cash cow is and has been for decades is the F-150, just as the Tacoma surely has been a big cash cow for Toyota. Ranger sales are a fraction of the F-150 , so from a mgmt perspective I would expect Ford to be spending far more to design, build and promote the F-150, their bread and butter product. Also I would expect the investments Ford is making into EVs has limited what goes into some of the traditional product lines. I think Yota has a big time winner with the new Taco, even the old outdated Taco as the article I posted stated "absolutuely stomped the competition" .

OMG!
Not exactly sure what your point is, but I had a '95 Escort wagon. I loved that vehicle SO MUCH! It was a standard trans with all the bells & whistles. We went everywhere in the escort. I don't know why, but the seats where shaped so perfectly for my back & tush.
SO MANY great naps in that car. Drove it 15 years before something happened to the engine. Not sure what.
I was just confirming that there was a perfect car and the escort was it. Mine was a 96 bare bones wagon also with the standard trans, we drove ours all around the country, I think it had 420k miles on it when I finally sold it

Drill sergeant comments that stuck? Remember a few of them but the one that still makes me laugh to this day, and yes I continue to use it on occasion, is...

"You want sympathy? Look in the dictionary. It's right between shit and syphilis."

Comment was not directed at me. But my laughter upon hearing it (Whoops!) definitely brought smokey bear hat attention to me. And yea I got to push the earth away for a bit due to my lack of composure. Memories..... some seem like yesterday, yet some seem like the decades they are.

Absolutely, F150 is the cash cow. But a company also needs to jump on what's hot. For a while now, mid size trucks have been hot. They must know, they brought back Ranger. It's just been so half hearted.

Yep. Just saw an article this week, didn't read it, about two new commercials Toyota has produced for the new Taco. When's the last time you saw a commercial for the Ranger?

I stated in another post, Ford sent me a survey & one question was if I was disappointed in my Ranger in any way. I replied "stop treating it like a red headed stepchild" (no offense to any members that are step children with red hair) "and show the Ranger some love." Mentioned no advertising makes me wonder if they were going to drop the Ranger again. Not surprised - no response from Blue Oval.

Well CEO Farley felt EVs are hot but he could be the one on the hot seat as demand has cooled. I've made the statement several times beginning with "I'm old enough to remember" and this time cite Lee Iacocca trying to get Ford execs to invest in a new concept - that being the mini van, Lee of course got the boot from Ford , allegations were made it had as much to do with his heritage as anything else, Chrysler hit it out of the park with the mini van , Detroit sometimes makes strange or maybe more appropriate stupid decisions.
link below to a decent article about Iacocca, including the reason given when Henry Ford fired him - "I just don't like you "
