One Good Reason is some of us will probably want to monitor engine parameters and such that are not possible on the factory instrument cluster. With the right apps and such you can monitor these things with your phone or tablet. In that case mounting your phone or such up where you can easily see it would work great. Plus there's not a ton of storage in the Ranger and in some cases there may not be room for your phone anywhere except other than in your pocket which a lot of people like to remove once they sit down in a vehicle.

You're right Curtis but some take it to the extreme like Sid @Msfitoy. ?

Lord knows how he can concentrate on the road?

Yes this is actually his dash. o_O

40$ damn that’s a lot for that mount! I’d buy one but not at 40$ cool mount though
Good looking, non-sticky mount version can go for a lot higher than that. $40 isn't bad for something that looks good and actually mounts by screw.

I honestly don't understand why people are still using car mounts when they have Android auto or carplay. I plug my phone in when I get in the car and it stays in the center console
Yesterday, I had GAIA on the truck screen but also had to use All Trails. I had to keep grabbing my phone to make sure I was on track to get to the trailhead. A mount would have easily let me see both maps without having to pick up my phone. The All Trails app is not Apple CarPlay compatible, so no option to put it up on the screen.

Because we are all different.
I can't see why anyone would buy anything but a red truck. I only buy red trucks. You'll only ever see red trucks in my driveway
Same!

Those red trucks look nice but I wanted to see every speck of dust so I went with black. ?

As for the mount, I like the bolt-in version but, to me, $40 is way too much. I try not to let my phone distract me while driving but sometimes I'll have an alert sound and I just want to see what it is. A mount would let me see it without even moving a hand.

My comments on Apple CarPlay are less than stellar but that is for another thread.

Not crazy about that mounting location. The phone will block the screen.
I'd opt for the other side I suppose.

I still like the small metal rack mounted in the dash pocket...just haven't justified spending that much for it.

Same. I like that one the best of all the ones I've looked at but $40 is kinda steep for what you get.

My opinion...park your phone in your pocket. I like this phone mount based on its design but for functionality it SUCKS. Give up your phone when you are behind the wheel or pull to the side of the road. I am out here too and do not care a fig about your "important" phone call.

Some of us use our phones for GPS and don't want to take our eyes off the road.

Hi Eric,

My phone stays in my pocket..If it dings me via my hearing aids...it stays in my pocket until the Ranger is parked and not mobile. I do not need a phone mount. Okay..that said, I was fitted with hearing aids that are blue tooth connected to my phone...the Audio specialist at Costco said I was the first person with a smart phone that knew how to operate it.... Distracted driving is become pervasive in our area.

What hearing aids do you have? I’m getting my hearing tested soon and if I need them, which I think I do, I’m going to consider the Bluetooth ones.

Hi Rich,

I have the Costo Brand Resound with bluetooth and rechargeable batteries. They are definite improvement over my hearing impairment, but they do not fix everything my wife hoped would be the result... What is nice is the bluetooth connection to the phone as I now hear clearly where before the phone call was like someone wearing 5 masks while talking...muddy as all get out... I hear directly via the hearing aids...not through the phone's speaker...

Good luck with your hearing test.... Just a tip...use an ear syringe before the test...If the wax buildup is too much, they cannot test you... I was barely okay to test. Then when we were done, she told I needed to have hearing aids for about 30 years before this first visit a few months ago..
