i've noticed on more than one occasion, when transitioning from gas to brake pedal, my big foot hangs up on something. i finally looked under there and the only thing that can remotely cause this is a heater vent that's right there. it moves some when wiggled. so it probably jsut snaps off. what's the harm in removing this vent? it looks like heat would then not be directed down but rather towards the firewall- though i may be wrong. thoughts? i rarely use foot heat or cooling but sometimes i do the dual vent thing- dash and floor..... maybe take it off and cut an inch off???? it seems to be removable and is plastic.

so looking closer, there is one push pin holding part of it in place. and another deeper up inside. i removed the one and it would not separate. though i had limited room to open the door. i will try again. perhaps just need to hold the upper piece while pulling the lower? does it just pull off?

Some other people have removed it and cut off a few inches. I haven't looked at it myself, so don't know if removing it completely or cutting it off would be best.

Same problem with my ‘20 when new. I just pushed it up until it was out of the way. Never had a problem since.

i read that thread after posting. but still, i'd like to separate the thing from the part above. to me, it seems that since there is a joint between the two parts, taking the screw clip off the metal bracket and then pulling the two pieces apart should do it. at least i can do that or trim it up an inch or so.........just trying to do it the easy way here.....

It seems that after I did the ABS bleed, I started hitting that thing less. I guess because I am not pushing the brake pedal down as far now.

pops right off , the sensor is a 1/4 turn and out, or something like that, the plastic tee pops out and it pulls off the upper part. pull down the big fuse door under the steering wheel for better access.

then hack off several inches. best "mod" I made

For the first 2 months I owned my ranger, I hit it daily. I don't know what's changed but I never hit it anymore. Just might be one of those things you adapt to. As said earlier people on here have cut a few inches off of it.

I hit it as well (size 15 shoe). I've started to place my foot differently on the brake pedal; more toe rather than the ball of the foot, and lifting my foot less off the pedal. I'll have to look into cutting this short.

This is interesting, I am 6'2" with a size 11 boot and I never hit it, haven't looked to see if maybe they changed it on the 21's, or if the fact I drive with the seat moved back a ways has anything to do with it.

ur just lucky I guess. I am 6'2" with a size 12, seat all the way back and down and my truck is a '21 lariat.
As a one time heavy truck driver I don't 'lift' my foot off of the gas, I rock it backwards off the pedel and swing it in a clockwise and upward direction to the brake. I could see how lifting your foot straight up and over to the brake would impact the vent.
