What is the electrical noise the Ranger keeps making when it's off?

Ive heard the typical fuel pump noise and other random stuff but one day after I had washed the truck I was cleaning my wheels while sitting on a milk crate and every 15-30 seconds for at least 5 min straight it would make a buzzing noise which sounded like it was coming somewhere in the vicinity of the grill area. I found it odd and a touch concerning but didn’t look into too hard cuz nothing was actually wrong. Especially cuz I’ve heard it make other random robot noises

Most of the noise I hear when opening the door and 5-10 minutes after parking it is the turbo wastegate cycling as part of the retained accessory power wake up/ time out. No clue why they do it, but that is where the loudest noise comes from.

I even checked the wastegate actuator cuz I’ve heard and seen it doin it’s thing while the truck is idling but I couldn’t recall ever seeing the arm move when the truck is off, it didn’t seem to be coming from there… I still could be wrong cuz like I said I didn’t really investigate tooo hard, nore am I an expert on how this truck operates lol

If you‘re worried about battery drain, a better idea is to connect it to a trickle charger.
I have the Ctec one but spend enough time away from it I need the trunk to start reliably. It's not even really a problem it's just been annoying me for a year now and would like to pin down what it is.

Interestingly when I look this up I get a lot of people wanting to disable it because it kills their battery (for other manufacturers/vehicles). I don't see it in my fuse notes though.

It needs a Ford Performance CPAP machine.
Sadly my CPAP ranks among my favorite things to get recently. Sleep so much better.

I think the trickle charger is the rangers version of a CPAP from what I've seen.

I definitely see the actuator rod moving with the sound. Not sure if it is wastegate or variable vanes adjustment actuator.

The vehicle has a power hold feature for when the vehicle is shut off in order to run diagnostics and update adaptive learning tables. It’s also why you should never disconnect the battery until the power hold has completed. It’s all in the manual under the battery section.

Hi Patrick,

CPAP can be life saving... Wife has been on CPAP for over 16 years now....She and I both sleep better. When we started sleeping together, I noticed her stopping breathing....Scared the shit out of me...So after a bit of prodding she had a sleep study and had Sleep Apnea big time. Getting the correct mask was a struggle, but now she even naps with her machine and mask on. Her sleep apnea is in the brain, it just turns off her breathing...

Best,
Phil

Same with me. I just stop without it. Then wake up tired as hell.

My 2020 XLT Makes that clicking, buzzing noise all the time. I turned on Automatic updates just before Christmas. Then on Christmas Eve my wife wanted to make a quick run to Home Depot. I got in the truck and nothing. Apparent DEEP SLEEP MODE. I had no clue it did that. Got my jump box. Started right up. Charging 15.0 volts. Then kept getting messages on Ford Pass - in order to save your battery we shut down things. Turned off Automatic updates and no more FP messages. I used my Points to buy the Ford, (CTEK) Charger and installed a GFCI outlet right in front of the truck in the garage. Been fine since.
As far a CPAPs go. I’ve been using one for 15 years or so. Much better sleep. Only use the nasal pillow With a chip strap. Works great.
I was sleeping in a chair by my dad in the hospital. A doctor told nmy wife I was stopping breathing and needed to get checked. I was stopping breathing close to 90 times a minute. If was bad. Always woke up like I ate a desert. Not now!

I haven't noticed my Lariat making any noises after shutoff.

I had a 2008 Triumph Sprint ST motorcycle that would make that 'AOL-Fax Machine Dial up' sound after shut off. It was the PCM unit resetting itself with additional sound effects. Triumph reportedly patented their trademark 'burble-pop' the modern triples are famous for. (stock image)

I had that same bike in wine red. Absolutely loved that motorcycle!

Having auto updates on might have been what killed two batteries in mine last year. I turned it off because all updates did was add "safely breaks" so I couldn't scroll songs and with all the sync issues I read about I'm just never going to update.

In the garage yesterday I had Bluetooth on my phone to connect to a speaker and I'm wondering if the truck sensed it and reawakened, so I turned off that too.
