I had some extra hardware cloth I put there and on the air intake. And that hardware cloth is very tough. If it can keep raccoons and foxes out of a chicken coop it can keep mice out of the truck. Once it is shaped properly all you need is a ziptie to hold it to the center bracket/post there.

We heard a noise behind our fireplace insert a few weeks ago, pulled it out, sat the Pdoo in front of it and went to my moms house to visit for an hour. When we got home my little killer had her new buddy all curled up on the couch taking a nap with her. Good kitty.

When dealing with a rodent problem I had read that the only limitation to a mouse's movement is the shape/size of its skull. The rest of the body can follow and squeeze through. Pretty amazing.

That said - the existing work is an excellent framework for additional support. Definitely go for something chew-proof.

No, there are a bunch of different holes that allow them to get under the cowl and then there's nothing to stop them at the firewall on the passenger side.

A great solution to the problem as it currently exists. However, I can guarantee that, right now, the mice are looking for other ways to get into your truck. They even have their own forums where they work on common problems. Check out some of the threads on Ranger5g.rodents.com.

I saw some signs that there was a mouse in the cab of my truck and the first thing I did was check this forum to see if it was a common issue. Saw the blend door post, checked the cabin filter and there was some mouse turds on it.

After thinking about it for far to long, I remembered that small engine paper filters have a wire mesh and rubber gasket that would be perfect to cover the holes in the firewall.

I bought two generic small engine filters from O'Reilly's and removed the paper from them. Then, used 3m weatherstrip adhesive to attach then. The hardest part was that you have to apply the adhesive to the filter first and then put it into place. Now that it's done, it seems to be stuck on very well.

Just another way of doing it compared to other posts on here.

Would you happen to have part numbers? I need to do something.

Cotton balls with peppermint oil placed in certain locations. And don't leave any food in the truck when parked.

I had a cat bedding up inside the motor area of a vehicle that I used to own. I started it one morning and the poor cat came out mangled. I felt sorry for the cat and didn't want it to suffer so I had a neighbor to shoot it in an open area behind our residences. Sad experience.

I remember having several tell similar stories like this when I was back in MA. They say they started giving the hood a couple bangs with their hand before getting into their cars. Of course this doesn't help if you remote start your vehicle or have a thin hood like our Rangers do. Maybe kick the tire a few times would be better.

When I was about 17, I was leaving my girl friend's house on a cold night. When I hit the key on the '74 Chevy pick up, I heard a horrible braaaap noise, then a cat shot out at about 132 MPH! So yeah, I here ya!

I had the same thing happen with my 1976 Chevy pickup. The fan removed the head. What a mess. Good thing I am not a cat person.
