I saw some signs that there was a mouse in the cab of my truck and the first thing I did was check this forum to see if it was a common issue. Saw the blend door post, checked the cabin filter and there was some mouse turds on it.

After thinking about it for far to long, I remembered that small engine paper filters have a wire mesh and rubber gasket that would be perfect to cover the holes in the firewall.

I bought two generic small engine filters from O'Reilly's and removed the paper from them. Then, used 3m weatherstrip adhesive to attach then. The hardest part was that you have to apply the adhesive to the filter first and then put it into place. Now that it's done, it seems to be stuck on very well.

Just another way of doing it compared to other posts on here.

I think that's a pretty smart solution.

Luckily I don't have mouse issues. But this is one of the better looking solutions I've seen. I love those moments where the brain clicks and you think of a totally unrelated piece to solve the problem.

A great solution to the problem as it currently exists. However, I can guarantee that, right now, the mice are looking for other ways to get into your truck. They even have their own forums where they work on common problems. Check out some of the threads on Ranger5g.rodents.com.

no thanks
don't mean to be a downer.. but me thinks your mesh is too large.

a mouse got into a "pull tab" beer can I had years ago and ate something I had in it.

perhaps get some metal gutter guard and affix it to your filter.. you do have a nice flat surface now.

I keep a lethal mousetrap in the back floorboard of the Ranger, have not caught any lately. Didn't even get the guy that serviced the truck last week. Also have placed Fresh Cab rodent repellent from our local farm store in the glove box and so far no new signs of mice.

Do you happen to have Part # of the ones you bought, I am thinking of doing the same but figure I would have to cut and trim to fit

Here you are:

https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...set/pri0/7022571?q=small+engine+filters&pos=2

While I was doing this I had traps in the truck for three days and they were not touched. Because I live in a very rural area, I think that along with this "fix" I had to up my trap game in the garage which I did.

Funny story, I tore everything apart under the hood and I was standing there looking at the forums when I heard a noise. I looked over and the F'er popped it's head over the battery. I chased it out of the truck and it ran out the garage door. A few hours later I caught it in one of my new traps next to where it ran out.

If anybody is looking for reusable traps for their garage, I highly recommend the ones below. I used a couple of them during construction of our house. They don't need any bait and I once caught three in a single trap, in one night.

I think the holes look bigger in the pic than they really are. But, like you said, if I have to, it will be really easy to add wire to them. I just dont want to restrict airflow too much because, my luck, I'll destroy the blower motor because of the lack of airflow.

Yeah, those holes are too big. A mouse can get though gaps that are seemingly impossible.

Funny that my Lariat doesn't have those hole there. I looked the other day due to another thread about mice. My Ranger will not fit in my garage so she sit's outside and I do worry about mice or squirrels getting in and raising hell. Seems like there are a million squirrels in my neighborhood. LOL
Thanks,

Thanks,
They are under the plastic cowl. Did you pull the cowl off?
