Don't see how that could be if you fill it to the correct level?

think about the filter/pick up being in the normal position, when cornering or under hard acceleration the fluid will move to the side or back of the pan & the filter will try to pull air instead of fluid.

it is still the same principle, filter/pick up is not covered when cornering & hard acceleration.

If you apply that reasoning to the OE pan than the same thing is happening when cornering and hard acceleration....so it dosen't matter if the pan is OE or deep....by your statement.
If the new deep pan has the xtra fluid added to bring it up to the same level as the OE pan fluid, than the filter and pick up is at the same level.
Using your example, and using Mike's Fitzstick, it will read properly with the OE pan, but if you install a deep pan that requires 2 xtra qts, and you add that 2 xtra qts, then the dipstick WILL READ THE SAME.
The deep pan adds the equivalent of 2 qts xtra space, which you are filling with 2 exra qts of fluid.....dipstick reading will not change, and the immersed filter and pickup will not change...
This is not rocket science !

How low do these pans hang below the trans on the truck? The stock pan sits up above the frame/engine mount/linkage etc by a bit

Do these deep pans hang low enough that you can't use a skid plate?

It's your statements that cornering and acceleration will cause the fluid to slosh away from the filter/pickup....
But using that premises, the same thing would happen with the stock pan....so why aren't you advocating that Ford use a deep filter and pickup with the stock pan ?

I do not build or rebuild transmissions. all I can tell you is what the 3 transmission shops I dealt with over the years told me. it may not completely uncover the filter but enough of an air gap occurs to waste the trans with long term use.
you dont have to take my word for it, go to a trans shop & ask.

Well, this debate suggests the pan with the least amount of extra volume would be the 'safest' - at least I'm not trying to build a hard-cornering track car/truck.

I wouldn’t worry. We fill to the exact same level as stock. Just takes more fluid to get there. If cornering was a problem it would be a problem with stock as well.

Exactly what I said. If pan becomes deeper you want the filter to pick up the fluid at a lower point in the pan. If you remember back in the old days GM and other manufacturers would have a shallow and deep pan transmission with a different filter for each. It was common for many individuals to swap from the shallow pan to the deep pan and get the deep pan filter.

If the skid plate is your concern simply use the stock pan or the shallow PPE Pan. Both won't give issues with fitment

Oh so now that I bought the deep pan a new issue previously never discussed pops up that claims my tranny is gonna blow due to it.

So glad I bought the regular PPE pan now. Actually purchased it by accident I did want the deeper pan but glad I messed that one up. Now I just need to find some time to install. Also I bought Motorcraft filter on RockAuto for those who are interested.

That was kinda my plan, but more fluid has to be better for lower temperatures. There's millions of F150s running around with these same transmission units not to mention the other rangers.

Part of me wonders if the efforts to dumb them down a bit for these trucks is what makes them a little vulnerable to issues when guys start taking them off road, lifts, bigger wheels, doing stuff that stresses the drive train.

Only now they don't have a dedicated cooler like an F150 or other little things that keep the temps down under strain.

I'm not planning on tuning anything I think the HP this truck has already is more than adequate. I do plan on modifications to help it run cooler and stay that way under stress though.

If I can get more fluid in a deep pan under a plate, win win. If not I'll go shallow like you suggested.

HEADS UP for the guys installing the PPE pan.

Late 22 & early 23 some PPE pans were packaged with incorrect torque specs in the installation instructions. The instructions said to torque the pan bolts to 18-22 ft lbs. At least one member here snapped one or more pan bolts.

I purchased the PPE pan in Sept, 2022 and put it on the shelf with plans to install it at a much later time. In Feb. 2023, I ran across this thread. I went out to the garage & opened the box, pulled out the instructions & sure enough the torque specs were wrong! I made a note of the correct specs and tossed the instructions back into the box so when I finally do put the pan on, I won't have any issues.

In that thread, the author indicated that he contacted PPE & they corrected the error. Hopefully the pans you guy are getting are new stock.

Shop Ford manual says
Install the transmission fluid pan and loosely install the bolts and studbolts.

1. Tighten the studbolts in a crisscross pattern.
   Torque : 106 lb.in (12 Nm)
2. Tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern.
   Torque : 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

I probably would have bought the Mishimoto if it had been available when I bought my PPE just on a cost basis. I do question the o-ring seal though. What happens when you need another one? Not that I think they will quit making them any time soon, but I'd be inclined to pick up an extra just in case I needed it and they couldn't ship one, were out of one, their supplier stopped making them, etc.
