Bummer. I have a 2020, and I have to pay for the new maps.

Some good Samaritan should share the map files ;)

There is a license file that gets created when you enter your VIN that prevents sharing the files. CyanLabs has the map files that can be down loaded for 2019 APIMs and older. There was a change made to the 2020 and newer APIMs that prevents you from using the map files.

Figures. I didn't upgrade to the 2.21 files while it was still within the 3 years. I bought it new in April 21 so I should have had another year, but I guess they went by model year, which is bogus! Hell, it's even a Oct build 2020, so I should have gotten until Oct 2023.

Did it ship with 3.3 or 3.4? Might be liked to that as well. I know it was MY20, but perhaps there was another bit to it.
It came with SYNC 3.4 Build 20282 & NA 1 18

Retired, work is a four letter word.
This is why I didn't get the NAV, I use my phone, or my stand alone Garmin Trek, or pre-load the maps into my phone. I bought the new map disk for my wife's Toyota for $35 after the dealer wanted $200 to update.

I tried 3 times and the new maps won't install for a mem003 error. After paying $199 for 5 more years of new maps, and meticulously following their instructions. Ford support is very nice to talk to though, they told me to call Alom at 1-800-900-8458 for "remediation" or something. We'll see what they do 🤷‍♂️

Ford must have seen my truck parked at a Chevrolet dealer where I looked at a Colorado.

This is what they want for a map update to maps that I never use.

Let me ponder it...

To be fair, I looked at GM sites and it appears that their updates are just as pricey and maybe even more so.

I almost think the manufacturers are purposely trying to kill built-in navigation so that it's one more thing they don't have to deal with.

On the 5 year USB pricing.....from what I gather the cost is $199/5Yr + $40/yr for the USB.
This turns out to be ~400/5 years or $80/year....vs $40/year if I write to own USB.

$200 more for 5 usb cards is absurd. I've managed to bungle thru 3 previous updates and I guess that's in my future as well..ugh.

I paid for the 5 year download plan and -IF YOU USE A MAC - I have found 2 error's/problems with the Ford Instructions:
1) DO NOT USE GUID PArtiton Map - use Master Boot Record. Otherwise the truck does not recognize the USB.
2) My Mac (M1 Pro with 32GB Ram) will not unzip the Sync32.zip file. Neither will Stuffit Expander. An app called WinZip (or preferably The Unarchiver )does the job. (The Unarchiver is in the app store)

It's still unzipping so maybe more bumps in the road...

EDITED to reflect Dr. Zaius's comments

Ford recommends The Unarchiver for updating with a Mac.

I used it with my Mac for the latest update and all went smoothly.

That's the one I used last time but I could not recall the name...Thanks...I'm going to go get that again (but WinZip did the job this time round). I'll update my post....thanks again.

I started the truck and plugged the USB in and it seems to be good. I'm not spending an hour to install at this point but it's ready to go when I am. Glad I saved the $40 ($200).
