I was poking around my Sync Navigation yesterday (while I was at a red light) trying to find a store. Whatever menu I was in noted that the feature was not available with the map version I had. I've always tried to be up to date with that, so I was surprised I got the message. I'd be surprised that the feature was map version dependent. If I can replicate the scenario, I guess I'll see later.

Will an official map update keep my nav screen from doing this when it gets hot? I was actually traveling North on HWY 51 here in PHX when my map decided to "go South" on me. Seems to happen a lot now whenever the temps get near 110*

I did not pay for an update last year. They are either free for the 3 year warrenty period (like Subaru does) or free for life.

Yes, though not quite $100.

I believe that it was $40 the last time I checked.

Even at $40, that's a no from me Dawg.

I think I've used the built-in nav only once.

I use my phone for nav.

Last year was the first year I had to pay for my 2018 Fusion and the one for the 2020 Ranger was still free. I’m thinking that the 2019s will need to start paying this year if Ford holds to the previous way of doing things.

Plus, if you do get a ‘free’ version, that is only if you download and create the USB yourself, otherwise it had been $40 for Ford to send you a USB with the update.

They also provided an over-the-air/wifi map update last year, but it was a painfully slow process. I prefer doing it via USB so I can somewhat control the process.

If the Ford nav were better than the other options I could maybe see paying for it.

But since IMHO it's decidedly worse, hard pass.

Totally agree. However, the built in Ford Nav works when you are out of cell coverage. That is about the only time I use it over Google.

You can actually pre download maps on Google if you plan to be on zero cell service areas. I was south west of Albuquerque without service for 3 hours, google maps came through.

GPS doesn’t require cell service which is awesome.
