Trails that tight are gonna ruin a Ford Ranger too. Get a Polaris Ranger. Most people, including myself, are not going to routinely run tight trails on a $40,000+ truck unless Daddy bought it for us and we don't mind selling it for next to nothing.

How in the world did you make it to retirement age and still come up with this fallacy diarrhea?

Any more details on this mod you have? What is it? Thanks!
It's a 15 gallon fuel cell mounted in a tool box in the bed. A transfer pump dumps it in the main tank.

Someone wants a big tank so they don't have to worry about refilling on a trail or not stopping as much when towing. Umm more power to them? Yeah it's a bit pricey but cheap and fuel tank are two things I wouldn't want to be part of my truck.

You don't wanna buy a side by side, fine. Get some jerry cans and save some money. I still say the aftermarket large fuel tank is a waste of money, especially at resale. Oh, and side by sides being a trail problem? Trucks cause more problems: they block trails, and guess who has to wait a half hour or go around them off trail? Spending 3K plus on a big tank so you can spend more time wrecking your truck makes no sense to me.
Then don't buy one. There's no reason to come and attack those who want one, just because you don't think there is value in it.

Lots of us don't think there is value in spending $300 on an engine cover, like you did. You know what most of us did when we saw your thread? Read it and moved on without telling you it was wasted money or telling you what you should have done with your money. You want an engine cover buy one. Some here want a bigger tank, show the same respect for their choices.

I beg to differ. My post about the engine cover was criticized by many. Did I flip out and start calling people stupid? No. If you can’t handle an opinion that differs from your own maybe you shouldn’t be on a forum. The tank is a waste of money, period.

at $1000 I'd consider for towing & road trips. At this price it's absurd.

For those not appalled by the price, hit me up in a few years if you are parting out or moving on from your vehicle and i'll help you recover some of what you paid.

So because somebody was mean to you, it justifies you doing the some to others? Nobody called you stupid or flipped out. Tha tank may be a waste of money in your opinion for you needs, but you have no idea what anyone else does, why they want it, or how much excess money they may have. This is a friendly forum, be friendly or go away.

I dumped the Raptor for the smaller truck, I like the size for off road, the range gets hairy, you gotta plan ahead, I wont carry cans, they would just get stolen or you have to babysit the truck.

So from a function standpoint the tank would be great, due to the cost, it goes to the bottom of the wish list, it's still on the list though.

Come on you guys, this forum is pretty damn cool, don't stink it up with stubborn opinions.

Wow.

Just thought I'd bring some experience to this conversation. I installed a 12.5ga LRA tank on my Land Cruiser, when it was brand new three years ago. The quality these guys are importing is out of this world. The tank is easily the nicest aftermarket component on that truck, which is saying something given the effort I put into that build. It's an aux tank rather than a replacement tank, but that just makes it more complex. The level of convenience and usefulness it's added to the vehicle has more than exceeded the ~$5k in total expense it took with installation, wiring, etc.

While not all Ranger owners may think of our trucks as being similar to Land Cruisers, those of us with significant travel and off road experience do. This is Australia's best selling vehicle, and a better Hilux. Not just a small truck it was cheap for you to finance.

Key to that appeal is the availability of aftermarket parts for it from Australia. That country's government imposes an incredibly high level of regulation on vehicle mods, both in how they're designed and produced, and used. The result of that is simply unbeatable safety and quality.

While a moderately priced oversize fuel tank may not be for everyone, it will offer unique value to people using their trucks to cover long distances in remote areas. And it's really important that we as a community of owners respect and appreciate the companies working hard to bring us the parts we need to get the most out of our trucks.

Will such a large tank ultimately sacrifice some breakover angle? I haven't seen one in person yet, but let's treat that as a possibility. Off-road travel is not binary. While there may occasionally be a very tough trail or obstacle that tests the angles on a modified Ranger to their max, the vast majority of miles are going to be a lot less challenging. Most trails in Baja, for instance, are challenging due to their remoteness, and traction challenges, not their angles. I also use my truck in remote northern Montana, where I'm mostly driving simple dirt roads that occasionally get a little crazy with lack of traction due to mud or snow. Gas stations in both places are few and far between.

Thanks like this offer some practical advantages on road too.

- buy fuel when it's cheap. Extra range allows me to drive through expensive areas like SoCal or major cities while traveling.

- preparedness. I topped off all my fuel reserves last night, when word of the coup came through. I'd encourage others to do the same, lotta itchy trigger fingers close to nukes right now. This is just as applicable to hurricanes, blizzards, you name it.

- towing. I tow a utility trailer with ATVs into remote areas during hunting season. Extra fuel gives me the ability to move locations without driving back into town to grab gas.

If you want to fuss with leaky Jerry cans instead, go for it. But thanks to LRA my 5'2", 100lbs wife is able to take advantage of extra fuel range just as easily as I can.

With that tank squeezed in there so snugly does it affect the crash ratings and crumple zones? Will there be testing to ensure insurance companies will assume liability? Seeing how it is sold as off road but the biggest application is really on road vehicles with the manufacturer dodging liability by a statement off road use will it void insurance company liability should there be an accident. Buyers definitely should verify with their insurers and DMV before installing one.

ADR regs will either mandate testing or non interference with crash structures.

Remember the tank sits inside the frame rails in front of the rear axle. It shouldn't be effected by or effect crash structures.

I think that whether it affects crash ratings, or insurance or warranty, will not deter those who want it, and have been waiting for a tank. Same could be said for swapping factory bumpers, raising suspension that might affect handling, installing really oversize wheel/tires that may affect braking......ect.....ect.
In the end it's up to the truck owner to make the determination.

What fuel cell and where did you purchase it? Thanks!
