At 21 days in the shop…. I stopped in on Wednesday and they claimed to be tearing down the transmission.

coincidental side story. My mom’s year old Silverado with the 10L80 is in the shop. Won’t go into reverse and it’s stuck in limp mode. Tech said it’s the valve body. The 10X80 family must be nothing but junk. I’m seriously considering a trade in
Curious, what model year is the Silverado?

Here's my final update. From what I gathered the original problem was the CDF. The had to jump through Ford's hoops and try software updates first. None of that worked so Ford had them change the valve body twice. Still no good. At that point I contacted Ford's customer relations hotline and requested a buy back. It was denied. Dealership was in contact with a regional engineer and they recommended a remanufactured tranny. We were waiting on Ford to approve. Last Tuesday a few days short of 2 months I received a private offer from Ford for $2k off a new vehicle. Combined with other incentives I was at $6250 at off an F150. The dealer offered $23k for my Ranger. As much as I wanted to stay in my Ranger and as annoyed as I am with Ford I drove home a brand new F150. Wish me luck on this 10R80 lol.

The problem is 100% on Ford not doing a recall on the early 10R80s and dragging their feet on replacement. Thanks everyone for letting me vent and hope none of you have to go through it

Ah yes, one more sale of an oversize F150 to keep it the best selling truck in America! And you still have a 10R80 transmission too. Unless of course you really needed a bigger truck.

Well transmission on mine has a bit of clunk when first driving but warms up afterwards but since its long off the warranty once it dies im making sure the transmission is either rebuilt properly with the updated parts or updated new transmission. It'll hurt the pocket but it'll be cheaper than buying another truck so 🤷

Trust me it will crater on you for sure. Mine started just like that only when it was cold but has gotten progressively worse and is now in the shop to be rebuilt or replaced

Just talked to my local dealership. According to them no one has anything to worry about; they fixed all the 10R80 issues in 17-18.

Autonation Ford in Houston.

It is all in our heads - ignore the TSBs and failures.

Also I sent them an XLT build with simple stuff for a 2024 and they sent me a quote on one with the v6.... yeah no. That would be cool but no.
Yep, and they got a bridge in Brooklyn they'll sell you!

When it does then I'll be getting the upgraded drum. Its paid off and out of warranty so can't do much

Well 40k later my new updated trans is solid still. If it goes, I hope the fluid lights on fire and its a complete write off. Next vehicle will be older and a manual for sure. Did add the ppe pan 30k into the new trans. Fluid was darker. Going to do 30k fluid swaps with filter swap every other 30. Feels really good still.
