SSM 49589 - 2017-2021 Various Vehicles – 10R80 Automatic Transmission – Whine Noise From Bellhousing/Front Of Transmission Fluid Pan At Idle and /or While Driving

Some 2017-2021 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with a 10R80 transmission may exhibit a whine noise at idle and/or while driving. This may be identified as coming from the bell housing and the front of the transmission fluid pan. The whine noise may become louder when the transmission is at operating temperature and may increase with engine RPM in the PARK position. A small amount of whine noise is considered to be characteristic of the 10R80 transmission due to the offset gear drivetrain in the front support and has no effect on durability.

Yep. Old news indeed.
Funny, I've never heard it in my new Ranger (late October 20 build), but my 2019 Mustang GT 10R80 sounds like a supercharger whine at idle when cold (cold start). Some have even asked if I have Pro Charger installed, LOL The dealer told us before we even purchased it what the noise was (gear driven fluid pump in the bellhousing) and it made sense when I did my research. The newer Camaro's have the same transmission but GM put insulation in the bellhousing to muffle the sound and it worked (they don't exhibit the whine noise). I find it almost completely goes away once fully warmed up.

Sorry, I posted it. Ford sent out the SSM on 2/17/21. I didn't know, it won't happen again.

Same here Andrew. My Ranger is relatively quiet with a little whine, but the wife's '18 Mustang GT has the same sound as yours. Doesn't seem to hurt anything, and we're used to it now.

Be careful, the forum police are always on patrol....??. The only thing better would have been for you to ask about the whine and some one reply "use the search function". LOL. BTW, thanks for the post. You gotta love tho how Ford throws out these "some" and it's normal. Normal for some due to design should affect all right?? ?
