So let me get this straight. You have a truck that has a 7500 lb towing capacity and you're looking at towing a trailer that maximum loaded is lower than that capacity. And you're questioning at the truck can handle it? You will be just fine as long as you are being smart and follow manufacturer guidelines. Don't follow those guidelines and go far past them? Yeah you can have some problems. Put simple the ranger is very capable.

let’s straighten you out a little bit more frenchy.

i stated I was certain the weight is no problem. My question more generally pertains to the overall length of the trailer. Wibble wobble and flop flibble and all of that with the wind dribble.

Yeah and you will be fine, if its within capacity hou will be fine. Can there be issue with trailer lenght? Maybe but even then I could care less as long as it is within towing capacity specifications. Some may think I'm a bit crazy for saying such but its the truth. As long as you arw being smart while towing you should be fine for the most part. Its when other things like other drivers or mother nature that can make things a bit more interesting. Regardless you should be fine. As for the WDH as long as you fine the right one(as close to the toung and trailer weight as possible). Brand probably wont matter that much as most are the same with the exception of special manufacturer designs(like the built in sway control from Reese)

thanks my dude.

some argue wheel base ratio vs length of trailer etc, and I just don’t know anything about all that, so i just am throwing a request of info from y’all on this forum for that stuff.

Well there is no argument on the fact that a vehicle with a longer wheel base will tow better than a vehicle with a shorter wheel base. But then again the Ranger still has a nive towing capacity available. As long as you are within you should be fine. Also make sure you follow the manufacturer guidelines when towing. Other then that you should be fine

And your basing your opinions on what ? Personal experience ? Do you tow an rv ? Have you ever loaded your Ranger down with cargo to it's max ? Have you ever towed a trailer with your Ranger?
If not, how can you give any serious input ?
Anything else I can do for you?

Very nice Daniel, and you have put me in my place.
But I still take issue with the OP trailer being too long...yes, lots of "sail area" but not of concern if you/he knows what to do and how to handle windy situations.
As far as the Ranger being a short wheelbase, the 2005 Ford F-150 Supercab had a 133 inch wheelbase, which is only 7 inches longer than the Ranger. Our Rangers aren't really that "small".

Grumpaw made a suggestion that's worth following up on. Join some RV specific message boards. IRV2 is one I have been a member of for years and there's loads of good information to be had.
I think it would be interesting if you pose your towing question on that message board.
Be sure to have your flak jacket on though.
While I have used fairly gentle words to oppose your choice. Over there you probably will be accused of being careless and reckless and endangering the traveling public by some of the resident "tow-pros" or "weight police".
BTW... It's not unusual to hear about someone upgrading their TV (tow vehicle) after getting some real-world experience towing.
I will have my popcorn ready and be watching for your posting.
Whatever the outcome is, I wish you well and safe travels.

I second the suggestion to visit IRV2.com. There is a huge base of experience. Look past the strong opinions and collect the information that is useful to you. I’ve been ther since 2015. No regrets.

I think you are exploring the grey area between can and should.
Can your Ranger? Yes.
Should your Ranger? Meh... I dunno. I wouldn't.

If you were just going to tow it around the block, down the street, move it from one storage facility to another, it's probably fine. Hell, towing across Kansas on a calm, placid day might even be ok.

But if you are going to tow any length of time, that could be uncomfortable. Winds could make that uncomfortable and some days maybe even too much. Small hills? Probably OK. Mountain passes are going to be a little unpleasant. Sure, you - a skilled driver, can do it. It just takes a lot of situational awareness, mental focus, trailer monitoring, planning your next move and your next next move, leaving braking distance - and being frustrated by little fast cars whipping around you in traffic or queueing up behind you and up your ass going up hill where there is no passing.

There's what your truck can do and what it can do without causing the driver too much discomfort to get there. Is it worth it. That's the real question.

Good Luck!

Maybe instead of thinking in binary “will it do it y/n” you need to think more like “at what speed is towing this camper safe and comfortable?”
  • The shrimpy camper Floyd runs around with is a 75mph load no problem.
  • The 19 footer that I posted is happy at around 62-63mph.
  • I’m thinking the 29 footer you are proposing is going to be best at around 50mph. Is this safe and practical on the roads you intend to travel?

I will give you the same answer that the RV people did. NOPE! Do You want to feel what the "tail wagging the dog feels like. "
Have you ever ridden in a sail boat? Wind has a lot of power.

Freeway/Highway/city, and then wherever the spot to park it is.
