i would imagine some poor fella out in the world has had an engine with extreme amounts of gas in the oil and it did nothing good for it.
Maybe like a two-stroke outboard motor? ?

Personal opinion. Yes! Fuel in the crankcase can be a problem, and Ford does have a fix. But the percentage of folks having this issue is very small, regardless of what you hear!
What's the fix?

Hello all. I picked up my new 2021 ranger on 12/29/21 with 23 miles on it. Last weekend I changed the oil at 2600 miles because the oil read high on the dipstick and I felt an early change never hurt. I had drained out 7.4 quarts, now not exactly sure how much over filled the crankcase was from the factory, I have been monitoring the oil level every couple of days. So, now I have 2850 and the oil level has climbed from the top of the hash marks on the dipstick to the top hole. At this rate, I would be well over a quart at 5000 miles.

Should I quit driving the truck? I plan on calling the dealer tomorrow to get it in. Is this excessive compared to other brand new 2.3l ecoboosts?
No Sir!! Drive that beeouch like ya stole it. This little engines love to be driven hard to help burn some of the excess fuel. Turbo engines will always have a gas smell in the oil.

Not a lot of these engines have grenaded for this issue. As long as the oil doesn't exceed the top hole on the dip stick. Keep an eye on it, drive it in sport mode often and step on it from time to time getting on the on ramps. You'll be fine.

those old things were tough. if you had too much gas to oil mix it would rev too high too quick. if you had too much oil it would blue smoke out the marina . i had a whaler with a two stroke "mix it yourself outboard" as a kid. 50 to 1 was what it was supposed to be mixed. the first few times i mixed the tanks without my pop were far from correct. the old sea horse just kept putting right along despite my mistakes. years later i had a mercury that didnt require pre mix and i thought it was up town lol.

That is totally not true. I have been driving turbo vehicles continuously for the past 37 years and have accumulated approximately 3/4 of a million miles on them. I have never had a gas smell in the oil and that included a 2.0 Ecoboost and (3) 2.3 Ecoboost power vehicles.

Guess our experiences are slightly different. Owned an 85 T-bird turbo coupe. Oil smelled like gas. Owned an 86 Mustang SVO, oil smelled like gas. Oned a 2003 mustang gt with a procharger with 12lbs of boost. Oil smelled like gas, Owned a 2010 mustang gt built engine from top to bottom naturally aspirated, oil didn't smell of gas that much.

Last mustang I owned was a 2014 gt that I put on a Kenne bell supercharger, oil smelled like gas.

All boosted applications will have blow by there for leading to the fuel accumulation in the oil by a phenomenon called atomization, its a fact. You can cut that down with a catch can, so don't get overly excited just because the oil has a fuel smell. Change the oil and change it often if your worried about it. Now rising oil levels past the last drilled hole on the dip stick or oil rising up on the twist, then for sure you gotta problem.

So totally true that your boosted applications can and will have a gas smell in your oil. Not some keyboard warrior here, take it from someone who builds, tunes, and races his own vehicles from over the years. Now if I had back a 10th of the $ I put into these my wife would be much happier, lol.

12.6 ounces over and your toast. 12.5 and you fine.

then it's toast done on one side - just like the pos toaster my wife bought - a cuisinart, worst toaster ever , have to pop the bread out and toast the undone side, and you think a little gas in the oil makes your life difficult, spend a couple days in my kitchen......
Too funny. I just returned a Cusinart toaster to Amazon yesterday for the same thing.

Most of these guys overreacting have never built or modified anything. I tried to
Use my experience building high HP cars and my current modified boosted cars as a way to explain that fuel In the oil can happen and blow by is normal. I was basically blown off or criticized. Let ā€˜em think the Ranger is some mystical vehicle that has no association with any other automotive issues. They are just being ignorant and refuse to

I smell the same ā€œbullshitā€ every time I see one of these posts where people think Thier trucks are gonna spontaneously combust if fuel
Gets in the oil.

Agreed Trevor.
If I bought a new Ranger at the end of last year, and drove the piss out of it and clocked up 2600 miles in a month or so, then dumped the oil myself only to discover it has 1.5 more quarts than it should have?? I would've dumped it right back in there after taking pictures in a measuring container and called ford to flatbed it down there. Not drive it another 250 miles and start asking questions. That truck has a problem!! I'd love to see that oil analysis.

Yup, my father in-law had an old in-line six Mercury and he ran it hard for decades. It was finally replaced after the spark plug threads in the block became stripped and it was not worth repairing. Other than that it was still solid.

The interesting thing is these two stroke outboards ran forever and they were lubricated by a few ounces of oil added to the gas tank. Talk about fuel dilution in the oil! After I was reminded of this in the giant "Fuel in Oil" thread, I decided to quit worrying about my oil dilution and just change the oil a little more frequently.

You’ve got ā€˜no worries’, compared to the real debacle with the Honda CR-V’s 1.5 liter ā€œEarth Dreamsā€ engine….
where some engines had so much gas in the oil, folks were getting sick due to fumes in the ā€œcockpitā€.

at least honda stepped up, fixed the issue, increased the warranty out to 6 years and unlimited miles........

I looked for a TSB or a explanation from Ford, does anyone know what Ford or the dealers are doing about this??
