I had Amp Research retractable steps on my last 1/2 ton pickup. I could always hoist myself up, but my 5'0" wife it was a real scramble. Those steps were the bomb from the standpoint that when deployed, they landed almost exactly where you wanted them to be an actual step and get you right where you could land square in the seat without a major duck maneuver and the risk of smacking your head when moving quickly.
The other things I loved about them was when folded up, they were almost nonexistent visually. They always worked flawlessly for me.
The only negative is we used to get on some pretty gnarly trails and truth be told, I wasn't all that careful when in these gnarly spots, so I did get a few pretty deep scratches and dings in them. I had some touch up paint that made the scratches very hard to see, but for serious off roading, probably not an ideal choice.
I will almost certainly install them on my new 2022 Ranger, when the right deal comes along.
