I need to replace the Glove Box "check" damper (KB3Z-2106200-A) because the nylon thread holding on to the glove box broke. There are only two Torx screws that hold the Check Cannister in (check screw - W502670-S303), but I can't figure how to get anything on the screws to loosen them- the heads faces the firewall, and there isn't any room between the frame brace and the firewall to get anything in there. Is there a special tool needed to fit in there to remove the screws?

Can't help on how, but the dealer removed the damper when replacing wires back there. Didn't put it back and I haven't notice any difference in glove box function.

Hey Lowell,

You might be able to get at it with an ultra low profile screwdriver.

NEIKO 01322A Ultra Low Profile Offset Screwdriver & Torx Set, 5 Pc, Heavy Duty S2 Steel Construction, SAE, 10mm Bit Depth, Angled Hex Bit, Bent Screwdriver for Tight Spaces, Allen Wrench Keychain

Also on mine 2021 Lariat when I changed the cabin filter noticed mine was not connected and have no issues with the glove box.

Typical Ford Engineering. Ford could have just as easily mounted the damper with the screws going in from the opposite direction... but they didn't. Seen it a thousand times on Fords. Not a thoughtful moment given to maintenance.

I wish I could help. Like other replies, mine is disconnected. I watched a YouTube before changing my cabin filter, but I couldn't access the cable disconnect due to my spinal fusion lack of flexibility.
So I just manhandled it and the cable popped out. I can see I didn't break anything, but I'm not missing the damper. .....nice feature, but not worth whatever it added to the truck's cost.

I failed at getting my iphone up behind it to take a picture of what kind of screws are on the heads- I had no luck. I had a friend come over with a scope on a tube and that is how I got to see it was a Torx. My iphone has a thick case (Otterbox Defender) and that barely squeezed into that small space..

Unfortunately, it is done with thought but just not with tech/end-user in mind... rather manufacturing/assembly line efficiency

The ultra low profile offsets I mentioned above come in a set that includes a couple of Torx heads. You can also get a full Torx set. They are very slim.

I'd just get some needle nose pliers, grab the threads and loosen them from behind. I'd imagine the torque isn't so high that the screw would be mangled before you could undo them by hand. Worth a shot if you can't find a tool t get the fronts.
