Fuel in oil

Ok, strange as it may be here is my Blackstone report. Everything is normal and minimal gas in my oil. My build date is 11/2020 XLT sport scab. Before I got the report I would have thought I was at 2 to 3%. Test says it all but I’m still putting a catch can on.

Rick, that oil dilution looks good, but yours and just about every Blackstone report I've seen the viscosity level is low according to Blackstone. That is what is motivating me to use 5W40 on my next oil change.

I found this article an interesting read. My takeaway from that article is that flashpoint may or may not be an accurate indicator of your level of fuel dilution. There are lots of variables.

How long have you had this installed and are there signs that the filter is getting any oil saturation?

I've had mine for about two months now (CFM breather). I believe I ordered the one for the 2.0L EcoBoost because at the time they didn't have it registered to the ranger. Fits perfect and looks like Doc's, except I have the engine cover. I have several mods on the truck and was concerned there was added blow-by. Around town and short trips it doesn't get saturated really

Where I notice saturation is when I am towing and/or going up a long steep grade. It gets saturated rather quickly. First trip out with the breather installed was about 115 miles one way, and 4000ft change in elevation with a 3700 lb trailer and 700lbs in the bed, with two passengers. It was clean when I left and saturated when I got there. Oil level has remained constant, I check it regularly. I also got my results back from Blackstone and looked good on metals and no fuel dilution

The best thing to do when running a breather like this is to go on amazon and buy a 24pk of wrist sweatbands and put one over the breather (colored or not, your choice haha). That way if it gets saturated it won't go all over your engine. There is a slight smell of oil while the engine cools after longer drives, and the sweatband helps with that as well

I try to go on an off-road or camping trip once a month, so I just change the sweatband before each trip

How far up your stick was your oil level. I sent a sample off and my level was up to the top hole. Had risen to that level from the hash mark, and they told me mine was 1% couldn't understand that with that much of a rise!

Mine was like many others, started at top of hatch marks and rose to top hole and stayed there. Did the same thing again after I changed my oil. It’s at the top hole again.

Now if your read their written material my factory oil was thin in viscosity. Might go to 40 weight next change.

Oil viscosity is determined by bearing clearance. Put an overweight oil in and not only will oil temps rise too much, but you risk damaging the bearings.

The Focus RS’s engine is the 2.3 Ecoboost and its owners manual calls for 5W50. The owners manual for the Mustang with the 2.3 Ecoboost calls for 5W30 for normal driving and 5W50 when racing. Ford calls for a heavier weight oil in the 2.3 Ecoboost in different situations.

Bearing clearance will determine oil pressure depending on viscosity IE:
A high milage engine experiencing a drop in oil pressure because of wear can be offset by running a higher viscosity oil. Increased oil temperature and risk damaging bearings my experience never happened

just Checked oil at 850 miles it’s at top hole been there since new so I changed it and filled to top of cross hatch which is 3/8 lower than top hole. my manual says top hole is max full mark. The oil looked kinda green tho

Look and see what color is your radiator coolant ..

I had some green residue when i bought mine new, I think it's some break in material.
it was not directly in the oil but i saw it on top of the dip stick

Wouldn't worry to much if it goes no higher than top hole. AmsOil says 2.4 % oil dilution is manageable for the oil to still be effective. I've read articles that state today's modern synthetic can handle up to 4% fuel dilution, although not recommended to run at that rate. As far as color your antifreeze should be a redish color not green!
