I don't know of any manufacturer that would be willing to accommodate anyone after warranty expired.
See, he should've answered the phone!

Maybe, but many people will tell you ESP is a waste of money. Why pay $1800 for an ESP when you can pay $12000 for a "known problematic" transmission that fails 5K after OEM warranty.

I made about 400 percent return on my ESP this time but never bought one before.
So far I'm batting 0 on both of mine, but in a way that's a good thing it means there's no problems.

Like any insurance policy you buy it for peace of mind and hope you never have to use it but glad you have it if you do.

Sad, did you ask them to do TSB 25-2134?
I did. They drove it on two 10 mile loops, then left it parked till I went in to find out what was going on after being without my truck for over a month. I tried calling multiple times after about two weeks, to no avail. They didn't call me at all. The transmission still operates like crap, and I'm looking forward to getting rid of it.

If you haven't already, replace the DPFE sensor.

It can clear up some janky transmission shifting issues.

You buy insurance to cover what you can't afford. I can afford my $1000 deductible, I cannot afford to replace my truck.

Wow Josh, you are one angry Ontarian. It sure sucks to have to deal with truck issues.

Here’s some of the perspective we tend to forget when we’re pissed about our vehicles……
  • Ford didn’t charge you $12k to replace your transmission. The independent dealer that did the work charged you.
  • The decision on whether or not to provide you with a loaner or rental car while that work is done is not Ford’s - it’s the dealer’s and it’s at their discretion.
  • Ford’s duty of care expires when the warranty expires.
I’m out of warranty at the moment and if something happens to my truck, that’s just the way it is. Some folks buy new every few years, others lease, some buy extended warranties, others roll the dice.

Still sucks when it happens.

That's pretty much what I said " Like any insurance policy you buy it for peace of mind and hope you never have to use it but glad you have it if you do."

You have it for the peace of mind that it's covered and you know your out of pocket costs up front..... IE the deductible.

I wrote a longer post but felt it wasn’t as sympathetic as I’d like. First off, OP, I’m sorry to hear your truck had the issues it did and you got stuck with the bill. No one wants that. That just plain sucks.

that being said, i agree with Duke here. My warranty ends in July. I’m keeping the Ranger. I chose this path. Ford isn’t forcing me. I know what the gamble is and I’m going for it. Hoping for the financial freedoms that a successful gamble may bring. So while this could end up sticking me with a big bill, it’s a gamble I’m willing to take since the consequences are still cheaper than a new truck payment. That’s my choice, and blame resides with me for whatever happens.

with all that said, it’s totally fair for a buyer like the OP moving on from ford in future purchases. That’s ford’s consequence to bear for their product’s shortcomings.
