I married into a Oldsmobile that had one of GM's "special" ignitions. Right around the time the recall went out, the car started randomly shutting itself off while driving. Due to GM dragging their feet on getting replacement parts to the dealerships, my wife had to drive the car with this problem for months before they were finally able to fix it, and GM and the government were apparently ok with that. But a pickup with a potentially faulty latch on an unused seat...One thing that stands out to me is if you buy the ranger BEFORE the defect is discovered you can just keep on driving it until YOU get it in for the repair. If the defect is found before you take delivery you can't drive it. Period. So their ok with potentially millions of drivers running around with the condition but don't want to put one more on the road no matter how bad the purchaser needs the vehicle.
How many millions of miles were driven with airbags that could have shredded your face in an accident because the cars were already on the road an the parts weren't available.
