Hello everyone, I have a 2022 Ranger Lariat for a month now and twice it would not start. The lights and radio work but will not start when I push the button ( foot is on brake). The truck will start using remote start and will start again with button after. A window pops up and says full accessory. I am sure that I am doing something wrong but do not know what. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Steven, could be that your battery is going bad. Take it to the dealership and have them test it (there are numerous posts about short battery life on our Rangers.....and threads on how to extend battery life).

Possibly but I do not think so because it starts strong and fast with remote and the windows meesage makes me think it is on accessory mode is on only.

It looks like it is because the accessory mode is on, to turn off just press button again without pushing the brake. Then start again as normal.

I have a hunch, but some clarity is needed.
After remote start, are you shutting it off and then starting with the PB?
Or
Remote Start, then hitting the PB?

Operation:
1. PB Start, without touching the Brake Pedal, you will only enter ACCY Mode
2. PB Start - Pushing Brake Pedal REQUIRED to Start the Truck

Remote Start:
After Remote Start - Only pressing the PB is required to FULLY Power the truck, no brake pedal push is required as the engine is already started.

So, I am thinking you are losing the Brake Pedal input, to allow PB starting, that is the (1) input I think you are missing.

You can view on a Scanner - Live Data and view the Brake Pedal Position, Input, (On/Off)
your brake lights may or may not be working and even thought they work the PCM may not be seeing the input.

I get in truck to start normally with the push button, truck turns on when button is pushed but only goes into accessory mode and does not start. The only way to get it to start is to use remote start. After driving it it will start again like normal with the button.

Can you see if the brake lights come on when you try to start? Or have somebody watch.

Checking brake light function is a good starting point . In order for the truck to start and not go into accessory mode, it has to get the signal that the brake pedal is pressed. That same brake switch under the dash should be the one activating the rear brake lights.

How often does it do it?
How long does the truck sit when it fails to start? In Hours or Days
There are a number of possibilities here.

1. Loss of an input parameter, Brake Pedal Pressed, Gear in Park, Authorized FOB, Lose wire connection and intermittent faulting.
2. Voltage level dropped below 11.5 volts @ Wake-Up (after 4 or more hours of rest)
3. Intermittent Failure of PB switch - not going into Start Mode
4. Low FOB battery, try a new battery or Spare FOB

When you have this issue try a few things to see if anything gets it to start.

A. If you have a voltmeter, check the battery voltage at the time of failure.
B. Press and Release brake pedal, several times and then press and hold.
C. Rock the Gear Shifter - Back and Forth plus try to start in neutral.
D. Try this after a failed start attempt, cycle PB back to off, wait 3 minutes and try again. The wait time varies for this possibly 10 minutes. (Ref - my link below)
You may also cycle PB to off, open and close driver's door, let the IPC power back down then try to start it. (You want to full power cycle the IPC and the relays)

Ref: My Thread on this issue, but since you are getting some power, it may not be related

Are you having any other issues?
Does the Door Locks work without any issues?
Does ASS Work?

Have you tried hooking up scanner and see if any codes are set in memory?

The truck sat for 10 days the first time and a day or two the second time. I will try your suggestions if it happens again. Thanks

I had a similar issue once with my new 23 XLT. I don’t have keyless start, but there was no response from my fob to unlock the door. I used the key to unlock but then the ignition switch did not work. Luckily my phone was with me and I used remote start, which seemed to “wake up” the system and allowed me to use the ignition switch with the key. I chocked it up to a one-time glitch. Maybe I needed a software update. It may be a sign of what’s to come!?!

My 2012 Focus glitched fairly often. I would exit the car and the doors wouldn’t lock with the remote. I would have to climb back in, insert key and turn to on, turn off and then everything worked normal. Never had it refuse to start but the remote connection was flaky

Thanks for this advice. I was working at a rental house, and mine wouldn’t start. This thread and these tips (gearshift movements etc) got the truck started. No issues since, although I did replace the key fob battery. FYI, new battery was installed 6 months ago. THANKS!

Possibly but I do not think so because it starts strong and fast with remote and the windows meesage makes me think it is on accessory mode is on only.
I've experienced this glitch on occasion when I'm sitting in the truck with accessory switch on listening to radio...switch to start and nothing happens as if the starter is disconnected...turn off and on a few times and it starts...
