I have 2. One is wedged in between the rear seat and the cab. The other is zip tied to my builtright industries storage rack in the bed. When your away from civilization using old equipment and doing other various out in the woods activities things happen and your on your own. I also keep 2 on my boat. When your near shore or fishing in tidal creeks of the ICW same deal. Your on your own lol.
Hi Andy,

You sure you can get the zip tied one off the storage rack? Zip ties are quite strong...

Best,
Phil

Are any of these safe stored inside a vehicle parked in the sun with 120F outdoor temps ?
I know several here who have the Element ones and haven't had any issues. It gets a lot hotter than 120 while your vehicle is baking in the sun here.

What am I missing?
It gets up to 117 here regularly so the inside of the cab is much hotter 120+. None have had any issues with these temps. There's not many places in the US that get temps of 120+ on a regular basis. Maybe Death Valley?

now and then in the off road section questions come up about what gear to take off road, what is the basic recovery gear one must have. i always had a fire extinguisher in my trucks since i was 20 something. i worked on a ranch and grass fires were a big concern. last weekend i went up to oklahoma and did some exploring on back roads and no roads. got to one area around love county where the forest fires were not totally out. they were contained but the wind was working hard to change that. the ok fs fire groups were out. talked to a couple, nice guys. they were going around in the brush trucks trying to make sure nothing spread or got worse. lots of glowing smoldering spots all around. few miles later i came upon a fire going that had plenty of fuel around it and getting wind. i decided i better hose it before it was the next wild fire. i got my lil extinguisher (brand new full) and walked up on it carefully as most of the ground around it was embers from the fires days prior. melted my boots a bit lol. it was not a big flame about what a comfy camp fire would be. the one camp fire size fire took the entire canister to kill it. so long story for recommending two things to everyone
1. keep a fire extinguisher in your truck
2. get a bigger fire extinguisher than you think you need. i will be upgrading mine this week to a much larger canister.
I've always kept a fire extinguisher in my FJ40 (I also have two in my kitchen mounted in the open on the wall - 10# and 18#).

BUT ... for Soupie, I went a different route with these - they don't expire - they also don't have any "push" to them so you couldn't shoot it through a radiator.

Hi Phil,

I should have mentioned I keep a pair of wire cutters tethered to the rack next to the extinguisher with a 12-14in long piece of safety wire.

Fire Extinguisher Mount <-- I have this one. I bought some bolts and nuts to mount it to my molle panels, which have since been removed. I need to find a new mounting solution, or at least a new spot.

Hi Folks,

I think I have mentioned this before, we do not use the F word. (Fire) We use the terms "Thermal Event"....The Ford Lawyers have thus spoken...

best,
Phil
Like when cops fall off their motorcycles, they call it an 'unscheduled dismount'.

Likewise, my kid did "not" get "thrown" from a horse last year, but is now a member of the "Involuntary Dismount Club".

These are all great ideas! I really like the idea of those element ones and how they mounted to the side of the seat. I’d be more inclined to go the 100 version just because I do wood campfires and stuff and don’t want to take the chance of the 50 being not enough. I can’t use rear door pocket because my recovery rope is in it, and then I keep my tools in an ammo can behind the seat so that option is out as well. For those folks mounting behind the driver seat and on the passenger side, are they easy to get to in an emergency? I find myself almost putting a shoulder out trying to grab anything behind me in my ranger.

The Bracketeer Car Fire...
<snipped>
I have this one mounted up front under the passenger seat. It's a perfect fit and totally out of the way. Only mod was I had to drill through some plastic that's under the seat, but you can't see that at all.

Show a photo of the bracket on the seat track, please?

Not to contribute meaningfully but I owned a few Pontiac Fieros which I thoroughly enjoyed customizing and driving like they were some exotic. Partially because of a certain reputation they gained I mounted fire extinguishers in the front and rear compartments. I like Soupie's choice and if those were around back then would have kept a couple in the passenger compartment. If I had the means I would have added a remote cable to discharge the extinguishers strategically.

EDIT to add:
If you Google 'Pontiac Fiero fire' images this picture I took with my first camera phone comes up. Not one of my Fieros but that car got scavenged for parts once it hit the junkyard.

The vehicle borne extinguishers are to the drivers and citizens they will rescue with them as security is to TSA, theater (for the most part). If you start the fire then you may have a chance to extinguish it. If its been burning a minute forget it, protect the exposures (trailers and whatnot nearby). It’s nice to have something to do at a fire and discharging gobs of powder into the air looks dramatic but energy might be better spent first on getting victims safe and at-risk stuff down wind and down hill out of the way.
Respectfully,

Sure. It was already dark outside but hopefully the picture shows it well. Has been very solid since I've had it and easy to reach in case of emergency.

Fire extinguisher in vehicles is a must be here. 1 kg minimum for cars, trucks 2 kg. Let’s be honest, for your vehicles they are not much of help but for some other purpose they may come handy.
I don’t keep anything bigger and heavier loose in the cab, never know when you roll over and all the stuff starts to fly around and hit you.
