But if they do a reflash or update, will that overwrite the tune?
I have always heard to flash it back to stock before leaving it with the dealer as they may decide to "update" your vehicle.

I have heard of people mentioning the tune and leaving the tuner in the dash for dealers that are tune friendly. That way they can revert it if needed.

As with anything nowadays, YMMV.

I have been wondering for a while if people who are running a tune are less susceptible to having transmission issues? Not that it will prevent the inevitable but may last longer. I have been tuned since I hit 5k miles and now over 64k. The only time mine doesn’t shift smooth is the first few times it shifts in the morning and that is only occasionally. I know there isn’t an answer but I’m still curious lol.

can I just get a manual transmission? please and thank you.
+1

Anyone an owner of the 6R80? Did you experience the delightful lead frame problem like me? And enjoy the lousy Ford response to the problem?

FordTechMakaloco was pretty sold on the 10R80 after the 6R80 fiasco (lead frame, trans cooler lines, etc.). Haven't seen that he's changed his mind.

BTW, no issues to date with my two 10R80s. But still fairly new and still very low mileage.

The drive train is 60K warranty.
I'm only at 31K but it's a 2020 XLT .
It's going to be checked out soon .
I know, but they clearly state that if under 36/36 just submit for a new transmission instead of in shop rebuild, which is way more preferred to me.

No, it states the dealer has the OPTION to replace vs repair.
So, if under 3/36K, you are at the dealer's choice.

Of course, every owner who is under would want a new transmission - including myself.

I wonder how much time it takes to rebuild vs replace and what the other costs associated with each are.

There has to be a reason a dealer would choose to repair vs replace.

Takes a lot more time to rebuild, so the dealer gets more in shop labor.
20 something years ago I had a friend that was a transmission tech at a Ford place in Dallas. He stated that he would do 6 transmission swap outs in a day. One rebuild would probably take a couple of days.

So a really common problem I'm seeing with all of our rangers is ROUGH and Delayed clunky shifting. I'm also seeing that alot of ranger owners have to replace their transmissions before they reach 100K miles. This sucks. You can bet this harsh delay and clunky shifting is a contributing factor to the short life span of our transmission

A brand new technical service bulletin (TSB 24-2046 ) was just released a few days ago on February 22, 2024.

Title: 10R80 Automatic Transmission - Harsh/Delayed Engagement And/Or Harsh/Delayed Shift - Non-Main Control Break-In Capable

Issue: Some 2017-2020 F-150, 2018-2021 Expedition/Navigator/Mustang, 2019-2023 Ranger vehicles equipped with a 10R80 transmission may exhibit a harsh/delayed engagement and/or harsh/delayed shift. This may be due to the transmission solenoid ID strategy, sticking valves in the main control valve body and/or axial movement of the CDF clutch cylinder (7H351) sleeve. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to identify and correct the condition.

I've attached the TSB document for you to see but to me, it looks like a BUNCH of work on the transmission. There's even some language for newer/low mile vehicles to have a complete transmission replacement. Not some little gasket or plug and play replacement. Someone smarter than me can look at it.
I bet that would cost a lot of money

This should be a recall.
meh.

as has been said ad nauseum here, we are a tiny subset of users for a vehicle. there is no safety issues from this, and they have issued TSB's to detect and remedy the problem. users have reported various response from dealers on how this TSB is applied and the outcomes from it. the issue sucks for those who have it, but the vast majority of users have no issues.

this is like saying ford should have recalled all the tremor package rangers because a handful of a subset had issues with driveshaft vibration. yawn. again the issue sucks for those who have it, but the vast majority don't have any issues. they issue TSB's to address and attempt to remedy the problem.

The other reason could be that if they don’t have a tech capable of doing the CDF replacement or don’t want the liability???

I hadn't even considered the liability.

I imagine there is also the factor if the rebuild doesn't remedy it they are going to have to dump more money into it to fix it properly. . .

It would be easier to just replace the transmission with new, sell the old to a reputable manufacturer then that manufacturer can rebuild it and sell it as a reman at a lower cost.
The same way you buy engines from Jasper.
Ford could possibly save money if they just used this process.
