Well, I just dropped off the truck at Ford to do a transmission diagnostic to see what it is. Just for the diagnostic it was $215
Hopefully they perform the test prescribed in TSB 25-2024 along with whatever else they do.

So I went to the dealership and this is what they said Customer states: Transmission is not shifting correctly and needs to get it diagnosed. Check and advise
TEST DROVE VEHICLE AND FOUND TRANSMISSION SLIPPING FROM 3-5
GEAR. ALSO WHEN VEHICLE IS SLOWING DOWN HAS HARSH DOWNSHIFT.
CHECKED FOR CODES AND FOUND NO CODES PRESENT. RAISED VEHICLE, CHECKED FLUID LEVEL, LEVEL OK BUT FLUID IS BURNT.
RECOMMEND REPLACING TRANSMISSION DUE TO SUSPECTED INTERNAL FAILURE.
1HR DIAG.
The cost for the transmission parts is $6,904.47, and the labor charges amount to $3,080.

If this crazy amount is coming out of your pocket, I'd definitely get two or three other estimates...mine was replaced in 2003...new crate OEM transmission $3,500, labor $2,300...total for this, clutch coolant flush, less than $6,000...

Yeah if it’s a 4x4 the transmission should be $3000 or less and $800-$1000 labor ( 8 hours to r&r). Plus a few incidentals so maybe around $4000 ish out the door out of pocket. But have seen these high estimates and then Ford swoops in and cuts a “deal” for around $4000 when in turn it’s technically what should be normal pricing.

Ok the 2wd new transmission has a MSRP of around $5900 so almost double the price of the 4wd version. Some of the online parts houses are selling them for around $5000. And with labor it shouldn’t be more than $6000. Hope Ford will work with you.

Mine was $6700 or so outside of warranty. I probably quote a different number every time I post. But I dont really remember it. Because ford cares showed me they care just not 100%. I paid $2200 the rest was ford. I had 75k and it was 4 years old.
What did you say to them because I’m going to try the samething as you

That price is way too high. The entire transmission brand new is not $6,900. I could understand them charging high dollar for labor just because they can but what kind of ridiculous mark up is that!? It took 10 weeks for the thing to get repaired because Ford kept going back and forth with the dealership to do a complete teardown and diagnostic. I think that's why the dealership charged me so much for labor. If Ford had just listened to the original diagnostic and approved it, then I doubt labor would have been that high. I believe that I had to write a letter to Ford justifying that they replace my transmission due to a known issue with the 1080r. I will look for that letter and send it to you for reference.

Ok thank man. But yea 9k for transmission is crazy! The worst part is I have had the truck for 2 months and put less then 1200 miles. I bought at a used dealership

Just bear in mind that the $ figures others paid were 4x4 trucks where the transmission is quite a bit less expensive than your 2wd truck.
