Member count and active members as in people that actually read and follow this forum regularly are two very different things. But again good luck making a $10 -$20 knock off from China. It can be done but you'll have to order a lot to get them below that price and shipped. Heck, if it was so easy and profitable and there is such a demand why hasn't it been done already? It isn't like the engine cover delete is a new thing? Or are we guessing no one has thought of it by now?
Valid point about the user members.
But, making a knock off isn't rocket science. Look at all the knock off's of grills, lettering, ect. that sell for much much cheaper than the OE stuff.
Also, dosen't need to be "foam". Half the pieces and parts under the hood are of heat resistant poly/plastic. Simple heat mold would do just to make a cover. Dosen't have to be thick...it's just a piece to keep water off the top of the engine.
Even the aftermarket metal cover that is being sold is way over priced for what it is...just a piece of cut and bent sheet aluminum. Someone with a sheet metal bender could make one from a piece of aluminum for a few bucks....a lot less than $180.00

Of course it isn't rocket science. But finding a manufacturer to use the molds and custom make it isn't such a simple thing. It can be done but at a cost. The machine work has to be customized to the product being made. So again it is about demand. Apparently there isn't enough demand for a knock off engine cover. Heck there are a lot of complaints about the middle tie downs and last I looked there isn't a knock off for them either. The demand just isn't there apparently or someone would have probably done it by now.

Apples and oranges. There are plenty of alternative options for tie downs.

But not a knock off of the OEM tie downs. There is an alternative to the OEM engine cover too. :)

Look this is getting weird. I'm just saying it isn't as simple as make a mold of the OEM cover, send it to China and say make me say 500 of these so I can sell them for $20 to $100 a piece.

I think they would sell like crazy....over 16,000 members on the forum....bet there are a few thousand that would pay $10 to $20 bucks for a knock off.....heck, I'd even fork up $25.
Lessee... $25 X 16,000 = $400,000.00. Less taxes $100,000, less raw materials, $25,000, less defense litigation in your patent lawsuit trial, $274,999 = $1 profit.

Well maybe if you are a patent attorney you might recoup your legal fees.... But not everyone is a patent lawyer

Eh, it's a bit like copyrights on songs. Change a word, a phrase, a note and claim artistic license.

All that crap on AliExpress - you think you could sue someone there?

And the cover doesn't have to be an exact design copy. Although the foam is likely the cheapest material.

Exactly this. As long as you don't use the Ford or Ecoboost logos on your knockoff, you should be fine.

What about this engine cover, it's nearly the same price as the OEM.
Odd it's listed as fourth gen although that looks current. Still too expensive and I'd want something water shedding and sound absorbent to mask the fuel pump noise.

The fact it exists is a positive though.

I wouldn't pay $20 for an engine cover unless I was having a water pooling issue from regular use in weather. If it's just a car washing water pooling problem, I'd blow the water out after washing. If it's due to driving in rain and a regular problem, I think I'd figure something out with some zip ties and a piece of plastic from a windshield jug or similar attached to the firewall/cowl area. $176 from ford is absolutely absurd, and I'd have to be experiencing a real problem before rewarding their greedy BS behavior.
