I found my seat was uncomfortable and hard in the seat they first week I owned it. I solved the problem easily and inexpensively. I bought this seat cushion and cover, placed the cushion under the cover and I've had no issues since. (These Carhartt seat covers are amazing, even though I'm not a fan of their clothing)

I've uploaded pics of back and passenger seats.

My thought is the density of the foam, and the leather combined with the rails that the hog rings attach to, along with the weight of the person. Factory leather being thinner it will stretch and over time. As you see from the previous photo of the driver's seat and between the cross stitching, where the hog ring rails are located are wrinkled.

Is that cover side air bag compatible?

Maybe just ditch that seat and go to the junk yard and get a cloth seat from an XLT. I am very comfortable in mine.

Both my Rangers have had the leather seats and both were super comfortable. Like one of the most comfortable ones I've had and I've had several trucks over the years. I can drive 600+miles and never feel any back pain where as my Tacoma I couldn't drive 2 miles to the store without constantly moving around adjusting myself. Add in the heated seats for my sore back and I'm in heaven driving my Ranger! :inlove:

I have considered possibly switching, as part of the discomfort is the rear bolster

I have the full set of factory cloth covers that you can have for just shipping.
They are black factory color. The back headrest has the button cutouts.
They had about 8k miles on them no rips or snags.
If you choose to want them, let me know.

It would be interesting to see the “straps“ used in the Transit TSB. I can’t help but invision jute webbing like that used in furniture upholstery.

IMG_7047.jpeg

The challenge is attaching it to the seat frame but this, or something similar, would help with spring deflection and keep the foam from pushing down through the spring mat assembly (especially if the weave is tight). Nylon webbing might also be an option if you have some on hand.

If this application is too difficult to attach to the spring mat assembly, some high-quality upholstery scrim might be an option - it’s thin foam (1/8” or 1/4”) laminated to fabric and the good stuff is higher density foam and has better, thicker, tougher fabric than the cheap stuff. It could be cut to size and sit between the springs and foam, keeping it from pushing through while adding support. The key here is to get the best quality scrim you can.

Interesting. That spring mat appears to have different/maybe better plastic, ribbon-like spacers than on the Ranger. Those spacers look like they would help keep the seat foam from sinking down through the spring mat quite a bit, all on their own.

I’m curious (more like baffled ?)about how the straps are laced - do you know if the TSB includes instructions for that? My first thought is they would be wrapped perpendicular to those plastic spacers to create a woven effect for maximum support.

If nylon or jute webbing could be woven through your spring mat front to back and side to side, then secured tightly, it might be enough. No harm in adding some additional padding to the seat foam though.

I will keep this in mind if I end up going that route
Thanks

Perpendicular but not woven - got it.

I think it’s those ribbon-like spacers that make that solution work. You should consider strapping in both directions. Getting the straps tought and fixed in place might be some work - maybe washers and rivets/bolts? A long strip of Velcro? Double D rings like in a belt?

That webbing is certainly strong enough, inexpensive, and easy to come by.

Overall I have no issues with my seat but it has, for me, no thigh support whatsoever. I do have seat jackers but I’m not mechanically inclined so I’m nervous I’d screw something up. ?
I’ve also thought about aftermarket seats all together.

It’s pretty much the same as folding up a napkin or two to level a bar table. I’m confident you’ve got this. ?

I do have a question as I am looking into swapping the covers, but my main point of uncertainty is the Part Number of the cushion and have no clear picture of the cushion (naked) except for the Lariat (Bolstered) cushion.

My Cushion P/N: KB3Z-2163223-B

The XLX / XL - List the P/N as: KB3Z-2163223-A

Now the last dash (B) is supposed to represent a Revision, not a complete design difference and that is where I am hung up and where you can hopefully help.
When you had your covers off, did your cushion look like this?

Note: The white is the heater mat, so I am trying to determine if the (Dash A) eliminates the rear bolster or not. No clear picture anywhere.
Or
Did yours look like this one, and the only difference would be your covers do not use the rear attach points (hog rings) and the cover itself flattens that bolster down

I have a feeling that I may have to order and see if the (Dash-A) is in fact a different design.

I wish I could see this cushion (naked)
