Driver's Seat - Question

What I got out of this thread is that the smartest and most diligent troubleshooter a Ranger owner could ever hope to have on the forum is not comfortable and may trade his Ranger off, THIS CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN!!! Think people ?!!!

Great fix. I had a similar problem with the lumbar support, which left me in agony every time I drove the truck for more that 20 minutes. My fix was to deglove the seat, pop the lumbar cable out of the little steel stamping and finally cut the nylon rod that turns the half dozen individual springs into one solid torture device. Worked for me.

I really don't notice the seat when I'm driving, just happy I'm still doing it !!!

In my quest to get my driver's seat comfortable - which so far is a bust after numerous additions of padding (over & under) the seat bottom cushion.

I cannot get MY cushion to a (SET IT AND FORGET IT) point of comfort.

Cushion replaced 2 times and seat base; cover & heater mat have been replaced as well; all end up the exact same feel - Sinking Cushion

With sitting in 3 separate -Lariats and 1 - XLT , I have found (1) Lariat that provided support and did not sink, with the (1) Lariat being my first exact trim seat to seat compare - so after my failed attempts on replacements - fixing the issue. I have decided to purchase -(Out of Pocket) a 3rd cushion assembly and take my off coming cushion to a upholstery shop to have them modify the cushion by adding foam to the top of the cushion.
Note: when sitting in the (2) other Lariats - I also sat in a 24 Lariat - well I was disappointed as this cushion has the same sinking feeling as the 5g, granted not as bad - as the sinking feeling was more evenly felt on the back half of the cushion.
I was disappointed due to the fact that I was hoping the 6g would provide a - OMG moment for me, and I would just simply trade up to the 24 6g.

So my question is this - and this pic HIGHLIGHTS exactly what I feel, now my cover is not stretched or disformed as in this pic.
But it does show exactly how the sinking feeling - wraps up rear end when sitting in the seat.

How many of you FEEL THIS?
I know most of you find the seats comfortable, but with that comfort do you feel this - sinking cushion as depicted.

I am trying to determine if (ALL) rangers are this way or is it a select few that are more supportive and are firmer in this area.

This has been a long battle for me and not willing to throw in the towel just yet - trade off to something else as I love this truck except for this seat.
My various additions of padding have provided (SOME) comfort change but you can still feel (under your rear end) some discomfort, that's why my last-ditch attempt is to let a upholstery shop attempt to cure my woes if this is a bust, I am left with no option but to trade it off and get something else, which I would HATE to do but a necessity for my rear end and back as I have (zero) other issues with this truck so far - 14,500 miles and 23 months ownership.

Note how the -sinking area is slightly offset, this highlights another issue when in a left-hand turn and your body shifts to the right (momentum) you feel the uneven cushion.

Yea they are soft. I came from a ‘17 ZR2 where it’s a hard bucket and raised in front which kills the hamstring on long drives. This is better, doesn’t fully solve the pain issue but better

2019 Lariat, and while I have a slight leather stretch look, I find it to be very comfortable, longest trip being 4.5 hours, non stop. Love the seat, best comfort in any vehicle I've owned.

after 30k miles I have no fault with them either? and after long trips none of my passengers have ever said anything, just as good as my explorer eddie bauer, not as nice as my Caddy LOL
the cheap ass seat covers do suck though, but that is my fault, we might just be to use to the feeling of trucks, and knowing it was a truck when we bought it.
a story of a pea under a pile of mattresses comes to mind

be glad you dont have an xl. probably similar internally but so weal on the outside, on long drives i get sore sometimes without an extra cushion. im not finding mine to be particularly wqeak in the seat area you describe But i find mine leans to the left a little, like if you moved your blue circle a couple inches forward and over to the left. you've given me some ideas for upgrade/replacement thanks

Wow! My XL Driver seat does the same thing. Thought it was just me!

The Ranger has the 2nd most comfortable seats in any car I have owned. First was my 2001 Infiniti G20t. The only issue I have with the Ranger seats is I am teaching my 15 year old son to drive and I can never get it "just right" again.

Since my seat has a different feel as compared to new, I did try the seat jackers early on, and they do help in raising the front of the seat. I still have them I just do not have them installed.

I do have an (idea) option using them or take the idea of them and move them to the back legs.
This would change the angle of the (rear lean) - (I Hope) and shift it forward.
Which now is most of my issue (sinking down) in the rear with legs straddling the front pan.
This would be a trial & error (see how it feels thing)

As far as the lean - I have some theories on what it is.
1. Seat Cushion - Itself
2. Spring Mat - Uneven Tension
3. Seat base bent.

Uneven spring mat tension - meaning that one side of the spring mat is a different length than the other.
Like if you focus on the (2) U-Shaped hooks - they would be uneven. This MAY give a leaning feel to the cushion.

Does the passenger seat have the same feel ?? The bottoms may be the same with no left or right, mine feels different for sure , but nobody but the dog has ever sat in it...

On my 2019 Lariat I can adjust the back of the seat bottom up and down independently of the front of the seat bottom. In other words, front up and down, and rear up and down. There are two sections of the raise/lower seat switch to allow this. If yours has this independent adjustment, doesn't this provide enough height in the rear bottom cushion?

I like the SeatJackers and put them on both sides of my XL scab. A few others, here, have also used them.

For me, at a whopping 5'6", it makes the seat feel like a bit deeper of a bucket seat.

Easy install, except for folks like me that find plastic covers and fasteners a nemesis like no other! =D

Last fall I did the Katzkin leather upgrade. A big 2-day job.
I had the leather in the hot sun and used steam to install.
What I've noticed is, the cloth never had signs of what you have shown.
After the vacation in June and 4k miles i noticed this on the lower seat cushion of the driver's side. The passenger side my wife sat in didn't show as much of the wrinkles.
I weigh around 215 lbs. The Katzkins' are thicker leather than factory.
The bar the hog rings attached to along the sides of the seat cushion at the ends were not the best, fragile.
I also have the seat heaters.
I've attached a photo of the leather as of now.
What bothers me is that I never saw this on the cloth.
I am going to remove lower cushions an add 1/2" foam across entire bottom area.

I'm not sure if this helps but it shows that it happens to different leather on the seats. The back seat shows no sign of this but not used much.
