CV shaft dislocated when installing leveling kit

Hello everyone. Really calling on the mechanics here for this one. So I went ahead and installed a 2.5” leveling kit spacer on my 2019 Ranger. Came past the problem some people fall into. The CV shaft dislocated. Only problem is, I can’t get it back in. I tried everything, spinning, forcing. Nothing. I’ll starch pictures. The lock ring is pretty loose though which I’m assuming is the problem. I’m not sure what to do as I can’t take the truck to a shop or anything. Please help with suggestions on what to do! Thanks.

The trick is to get the center part of the CV joint and the axle all squared up, then it really will just slide back together. Until you can get them in the correct orientation force will do you no good.

You're more than likely going to need an extra set of hands to hold the knuckle/hub just the way you want it and put the floor jack underneath it and use the jack to hold the height so you don't burn yourself out.

This is one of those thing that has to be finessed, frustration will make it harder. Take a break and look at it some more if it doesn't go right away. You may have to manipulate the center of the CV a few times ( use a socket that barely fits in on an extension to provide easy force ) and try again before it goes.

I feel like I’ve turned the hub multiple times and it still won’t go in! Do you mind explaining the socket method differently I don’t think I understand. Thank you!

You're going to need to get the center and the axle at a 90 degree to each other all the way around ( squared up ) before attempting the insert. Sometimes CV joints are a little stiff and hard to place EXACTLY in the orientation you want when the parts actually come together just with fingers. If you are having a hard time maneuvering the inner CV to get it where you want it, grab a socket out of your set that will slip into the inner CV easily and put a short extension on it, use it as a tool to help be a little more precise putting the CV where you want it.

I thought about just deleting this thread but maybe someone will go through the same thing as me. Took the major kick in the a$$ and got the truck towed and then repaired. They had to completely disassemble the cv shaft to pop it back in. Definitely learned my lesson on this one?

The right place will charge you around $500 to do it. And trust me it’s worth it. It’s not as easy of an installation like it is on older vehicles.

I did this job this week. it’s not an easy job but it sooooo much easier if you remove the axle nut and axle from the hub. Hardest part for me was removing the bolt on the top hat and compressing the spring.

Thats about what I'm making a week as a chef on covid hours. I know it won't take me all week. Im actually as excited to wrench on my own truck as I am nervous being my first new truck.

Yeah, keep this thread up as a warning to people Removing their coil springs!!! Undo the axle nut. Learn from other’s mistakes! I thought I could do it like the guys on Stage3 video and I ended up separating my CV axle. I Had a VERY hard time reconnecting it even after removing the knuckle... days of frustrating battles, despair and defeat but eventually I was able to force it back in.
The struggle is real! Do it the right way and it will save you a lot of grief! My passenger side was way easier after I learned from the driver side!

Haha that’s so funny because I was watching the stage 3 video also. I swear he just cranks down on that thing without a care in the world and when I crank down on it the axel pops out?
