With the FordPass app you can lock/unlock your Ranger. You would need a cell signal on your phone to do that.
I use that method a lot so I don't have to carry my keys around. I ditch the keys inside the truck, and lock/unlock with the app.

My luck the battery would die on mine before I truly needed it :). The battery is "allegedly" not replaceable on those stick on button pads.

The key is not an uncommon part, any decent keymaker can cut a blank key to fit the doors, but the alarm will most certainly go off.

Put a waterproof momentary switch behind the grille that actuates the drivers side door lock, it would be like 10$ worth of button and wire, and as long as the truck battery is alive, you can unlock the door :)
Had one for 5 years before it needed replacement. this is much to do about nothing.

Locksmith made a blade key for my Ranger with a transponder chip. Opens the door and starts the engine. I have to insert the same key into ignition switch within 12 seconds before alarm goes off. Think key, cutting, and programming about $100.

An option when you have a plain key to get in the truck is to have a spare fob wrapped in aluminum foil well hidden in the truck. That way you can unwrap the spare fob and drive away.

Just remove the battery and keep one taped to it :)

Any rfid blocking bag will replace the tin foil. My ez pass came with one. Also, I don’t know what those key fobs really cost to make, but I make similarly sized electronics and it’s not that cheap, even in bulk.

historically i have kept a spare key hidden under the chassis for if i am locked out, etc.

the manual makes it sound like without the associated key fob you can get into the car, but not run it.

i called ford to ask whether they cut new keys and they told me:

1) if you unlocked the car with a key but don’t have the associated fob, it won’t run the car

2) they don’t make metal keys. just electronic fob/key combo.

3) it costs 285+80$ service to get a single new key

are all those things true? is there a workaround? is there really no way to get a cheap metal key cut with their proprietary ford pattern to at least get me into the car if i lock myself out while camping?
Today, I did it!!!!! TOTAL Cost $27.
Bought Transponder key new (online) for $20, plus tax and shipping.
Walked in an hour before closing asked if they cut keys. They did it for free!
Then they told me how to program. You need both keys came w/ the truck. I have the switch blade style. With the door unlocked, place #1 original key in, turn to on, allow 2 dings.....switch off, pull out. Place #2 O. key in, turn to on, allow 2 dings, switch off, pull out.
Place new key in, same process, then doors lock and unlock by itself, showing new key has been processed.

Boom!

where did you buy your key?

who can cut it? (has to be ford dealer, or you can get it done elsewhere?)

I JUST SEARCHED ONLINE FOR FORD TRANSPONDER KEY RANGER 2020, I FOUND A COUPLE DIFFERENT SITES. I BOUGHT SOME OTHER THINGS, SO I CAN'T RECALL THE EXACT SITE I GOT IT FROM. BUT I FOUND IT WITH A GOOGLE SEARCH, THAT'S ALL I CAN REMEMBER. AS FAR AS WHO CAN CUT IT.....TODAY IT WAS MY LOCAL FORD DEALER CLOSE TO MY HOUSE. I ORIGINALLY WENT TO THE FORD DEALER I BOUGHT MY TRK FROM, THAT'S WHERE THEY UPSET ME WITH THEIR RESPONSE. I WENT THERE TRYING TO MAKE A VALET KEY, AND THEY WOULD ONLY ATTEMPT TO SELL ME ON ANOTHER FLIP KEY, WHICH WAS $130 PLUS $80 PROGRAM FEE. I WAS JUST SEARCHING FOR A WAY TO LOCK MY KEYS INSIDE, WHILE I WENT KAYAKING, THEN I COULD OPEN IT UP AND GET THE REAL KEY, SO I DIDN'T EVEN CARE ABOUT IT GETTING PROGRAMMED. ANYWAYS......I SAY TRY ANY LOCAL AUTO DEALER, CLOSE TO YOUR HOUSE, I WAS GOING TO TRY THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER NEXT IF TODAY'S LOCATION COULDN'T DO IT. IN THE PAST, IT WAS $15 TO GET VALLET KEY MADE....PAST MEANING, LAST 2 YEARS. SORRY FOR ALL CAPS, I CAN'T FIND MY GLASSES. OH YEAH, PLS DON'T THINK FORDPASS WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN. I JUST GOT LUCKY!!!! WENT OUT AT 0730 HRS, APP DIDN'T WORK UNTIL THEY GOT BACK ONLINE AT 0900 HRS.

Hey Moe
I am trying to program my key and cant get it to take. Trying to figure out what is different between my truck and those who have succeeded. Only trend is they don't have remote start and I do. Not sure why that would matter, but Do you have remote start?
