Just to be clear while i'm having some issues now, i love it for being the perfect truck for me in many ways, i will tackle the issues one at time, (if there's more than one) and keeping it 4 or 5 more years is the plan.

Nope, not me.

However, a small percentage of the 17,000 members on here, who represent only a very small percentage of all 5g Ranger owners in NA, amplify their woes so strongly that it only seems like these issues are widespread, and affect every single new 5g Ranger.

One might also draw a similar conclusion from this forum that all 5g Rangers have aftermarket wheels, levelling kits, bigger tires, RTTs, off-road bumpers, multiple light bars, and a host of other modifications, when in reality, only a small percentage of members have made such changes to their trucks. However, they amplify these changes strongly.

Yes, some folks have some real issues with their trucks and it certainly sucks when they do. I’m not suggesting they don’t exist but I am suggesting they are not as prevalent as the small vocal minority might lead us to believe. I lurked on Ranger forums in the past to learn how to fix problems with my aging 4g and a simple Google search of a particular problem with any make/model of vehicle will result in a ton of forum thread results.

Along with posts by enthusiasts wanting to learn about a vehicle or how to modify it, vehicle forums are all filled with threads discussing the issues people are having - it’s simply one of the places they go to find out how to fix things or if they are alone in their plight.

I would suggest that the thousands of members without issues, who aren’t posting their concerns because they have nothing to post, are the yardstick by which we should measure the reliability of our Rangers.

If they were somehow magically motivated to post about how their truck is just fine, it would likely appear to forum readers that the sun shines out of the 5g Ranger’s tailpipe.
i think i may be one of those minority members lol! ive been accused of being a pessimist a time or three. But to be totally fair most of my fury toward the 5g is not so much the truck as it is the damn ford dealers. I have more chance of being an Olympic athlete than i do having honest dealer service - esp if its warranty work. just had to pay out of pocket yesterday for things that should have been warranty. I think most of the 5g members got the right truck. me included. the 5g will pass the 36k mark this weekend. if the transmission dont go poof... im expecting it.

I’ve had my 19 Ranger now for about four months or so and I can still say I’m happy with my choice. There are things Ford could’ve done better though:

-trans pan with drain plug for easier maintenance
-Ability to check trans fluid and fill from engine bay
-recirculating air turning off after three miles when not using max ac or heat
-storage under rear seat could be better
-rear seat back could fold down flat
-center console could use a usb reader inside it (better for hiding an old phone loaded with music)

Some of these are nitpicking and I could think of some others but the transmission pan without a drain plug or ability to easily and safely check and fill it is a huge fail in my opinion. I can get Motorcraft ULV for $6.17/qt which makes it cheap enough for me to do every other year if I had a way to drain and fill without messes and potential burns.

Also, I had a 2020-2022 Chevy Colorado LT parked next to me at the store and the bed heights were nearly identical, not that I thought it was an issue in the first place.

I almost got a Maverick, and my wife told me to get a real truck or not one at all. Since before the maverick I was always eyeing the Ranger, that was acceptable ???
Smart woman. Smart.

I guess my truck is too new for my opinion to really matter in this thread... but gonna share it anyway!

I've now had my blue Tremor 9 1/2 months. Just turned 15K miles last weekend. No issues. Zero. Has the transmission had a MINOR wonky shift a time or two? Yep. But seriously, only a few times. No other hiccups with anything. I love the drivetrain! Good power. Great engine in my mind. (And does a perfect rendition of an angry Singer sowing machine!) For any home project I've had that involved hauling crap (landscape rocks, mulch, lumber etc.) the truck didn't even know it was back there. It does truck stuff and does it well!

I added hood struts. Can't complain about those because every single new vehicle I've bought in my life has used prop rods. But folks here talked about the "missing" struts and I thought, "Man, my Tremor is getting hood struts!" (Ordered those before I even had my truck.) I added the "missing" tie down hooks. Probably did not need to, but 100% wanted to. So that didn't annoy me either. And yes I do use those middle tie downs.... every time we haul our kayaks is but one example.

This thing is SO comfortable. Truly enjoy it on long trips. Last summer the Warden and I made a trip that was 700 miles each way. Just the other day someone asked us something about my truck and before I could say a word the Warden proceeded to tell them how comfortable it is on road trips and how much we like it on those trips. Not gonna lie, damn near brought a tear to my eye to hear the Warden wax poetically about my
blue baby. Now, does the Warden tell others that I am ridiculously in love with my Tremor? Yep. Do I care? Not one bit because I freaking love my truck!

Is this thing perfect? Nope. But it does everything I want a truck for and does it well. Looks damn good while doing it too.

Shouldn’t have to add it after the truck has left the factory. I know about the aftermarket pans, even the plastic Doorman has a drain plug for $50. The dipstick is kinda pricy at $250ish.
You’re exactly right - shouldn’t have to add it.

It’s right where the folks who designed and tested the transmission intended it to be. I’m convinced they hid it from me so I don’t blow it up by treating it like an old Cruise-O-Matic.

My son said it after he drove my Ranger and he had some months before bought a 2016 Tacoma with 60 k miles for $30k , whilst I paid $34k for a new Ranger. Thought I had raised him to be more sensible, but he was kind of a mama's boy

Probably some truth to that.

I’m 61,000 with no issues other than changing the part in the bucking, surging epidemic thread. 12 bucks and 15min of work. It tows well for what I use it for. Only thing I don’t like is the interior is small and the arm rest is to short. I second guess not getting an F-150 or Ram sometimes. If the interior was a few inches wider it would be perfect.
