What is your experience? was the inital "offer" close to the final offer? Do they try and bait and switch you when you drop off the car?

Got a ranger xlt on order to "be delivered" in september. So was looking at options on trade in/selling private/ selling to carvana/car max my 2013 ford explorer xlt with under 57000 at time I am getting the ranger.

Trade in value through the ford website was around 13k-15k
car max was 14K
carvana was 19k!

Of course these are just website offers with whatever algorithms they use but if true got to think I have to go with carvana

Reportedly, they give you an offer, bring a check for that amount, do some paperwork, and you see your car for sale on their site a week later. Seems like a good gig to me.
I know right! That is what that youtube thingy says as well. Seems to good/simple to be true

Yes I sold my 2014 focus to them. Offer came in instantly, then I uploaded some paperwork, then they came with check in hand, took a couple pictures to make sure I didn't lie about any of the options and left me with the check and them taking the focus. Offered 4k+ over what dealer wanted to give me. Could not have been simpler or happier with the experience.

I ran my coworkers plate for him on Carvana, he got an amazing, almost too good to be true, offer from them for his 2016 2WD Colorado. He took that offer sheet to a local dealer who matched it. He drove away with a brand new GMC Canyon AT4. They gave him over 20gs for the Colorado so he got his AT4 for half-off

Sold my 2013 Lexus ES to them back in Feb. Showed up, they drove the car to the back of their building, signed over my title and had the cash in my bank the next day. Couldn't have gone any better.

Thanks guys.

This is what I am hoping because then you get the reduced tax with the trade in

Between my local family members, we have sold Carvana four vehicles in as many months. All were pretty frictionless, except for my son's transaction, but it was not Carvana's fault.
I sold them a 2020 Subaru Crosstrek Premium that I bought new for $24k. I drove it for a year, put 15,000 miles on it (I take very good care of my cars), and sold it to them for $28k. They sold it for $30k. No troubles with the transactions at all. Happens exactly as they say.

After they give you a quote, they show up, check the car over to make sure you weren't lying about the condition of the car (not an in-depth inspection, just a walk-around), and you sign the papers, and they ask how you want to be paid. They have an immediate option, and you can get paid instantly. Hand over the title (if you have it), or sign a Power of Attorney for them to get it done, and you are done.

It’s called equity. That’s what happens when you buy cars instead of leasing them.

I sold an suv to carmax earlier this year, they gave me the best price amongst the 4-5 different ones I tried. Can't speak specifically to carvana but I'd guess it's similar to my experience selling to carmax.

Filled in the online info accurately, brought it to the store for them to inspect/verify condition, they gave me a slip with the exact amount it showed online and I brought that to their cashier, filled out paperwork and walked out of there with a check in hand. Easiest vehicle transaction imaginable. And the price I got was absolutely insane, pretty much private party number without any of the work involved. Was very happy with that experience.

Keep in mind though that in this market you can certainly negotiate more for your trade in with the dealer than the Ford website says. I'd bring the carvana offer to the dealer and try to get them to match that, or come close enough to at least make it even when considering the sales tax implications (depending on your state).

We did that a month ago when my wife traded her Edge for the Honda CRV. Honda didn't give us the exact amount, but got close enough we were happy with the deal overall.

Be sure to check your value on Vroom as well.

Their current offer for my truck is more than $2k higher than the Carvana offer.

Yup, even though it wasn't carvana, when I traded in my 2018 2wd Colorado with 16k miles on it, I got 18k, with a large dent in the side of the door. Imagine if I got a quote from Carvana instead of the dealer, could of made off with a few extra grand but Ford Kearny Mesa took care of me with a good deal so I did not mind making a seamless trade in to them. It's a world of a difference trading in vehicles you own.
