When it comes to choosing an aftermarket exhaust system that can potentially improve MPG without significantly increasing noise, you'll want to look for options that focus on efficiency and performance rather than creating a louder exhaust note. However, keep in mind that the effectiveness of an exhaust upgrade in significantly improving MPG can vary, and it's essential to manage your expectations.

Thanks for the videos!
It's tricky to compare the video to stock, since i'm not sure what your mic sensitivity is like, but it seems like stock noise when idle or normal driving, and louder when accelerating hard.
Anecdotally, what did you notice in terms of noise?

Also, do you have any other mod with this, like cold air intake? Or just the exhaust by itself?
Well there you go. +1.5mpg with basically a muffler change. Surprised the Ford engineers never thought of it. Kidding aside, It will take roughly 40,000 miles to recoup the cost.

I bought the least expensive full exhaust from Magnaflow that was advertised as being the lowest increase in exhaust noise - the factory exhaust just looked like a cheap afterthought. The Magnaflow eliminated the resonator and replaced it with a big muffler, then straight pipe to the factory exhaust/muffler location. The tip is a nice upgrade and the 3 inch pipe cleaned up the appearance near the back wheels.

In regards to OP's post it's not 'as quiet' although I could claim (without evidence) that I get .1 more MPGs.

Even with the 'million mile warranty' I'd never recoup the cost but I'm happy with it.

I think that's why this thread isn't really accomplishing anything meaningful. If you think an exhaust by itself is going to improve gas mileage I doubt you'd recover whatever you spend. There are other mods that might (my previous post) without affecting noise but a performance exhaust that's as quiet as stock is a different topic.

Thanks. The one thing an mpg would accomplish, is miles between fillups. Instead of every 320 miles, it could be 450 miles.
But yeah, this thread is also useful to hear peoples' experiences with them.

No mods, it is a noticeably louder exhaust but not too loud. A rumble of sort at idle and low speeds and of course under hard acceleration it’s much louder but in a good way. Recorded with a GoPro 3+

Would putting an aftermarket exhaust even provide MPG gains?
It did on my old Sport Trac. Gibson cat-back, got 3 mpg better than the EPA highway rating, city mpg was no different. It was kinda loud but that was on a V6 with no turbo, a turbo will quiet the exhaust a little.
There are sound clips on YouTube of different exhausts. Gibson and Ford Performance don't sound loud.
Thing is, you're going to spend over $700 at least for a stainless cat-back for a slight improvement in mpg so how long until it pays for itself?

Imma PM you my address, please send me some of whatever your smoking ?
320 miles: 18 mpg (what I get on HW)
450 miles: 25 mpg (what many ppl get on HW)

just pointing out the difference in fillup interval on a highway is a factor, not just "do I break even" or not.
the more mpg, the more convenient overall. of course, this would assume that I could even get back to "normal" mpg with many smaller contributing changes.

Gibson fits the bill! Love mine.

I’ve been looking at this kit, but for some reason I keep gravitating to Magnaflow.
Gibson sounds good, though. Nice and mellow and a bit cheaper than Magnaflow, I think. Thanks for sharing.

I've been considering the MBRP stainless rear exit Duals, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. In the meantime, I installed the Ford Performance Accessories
KL3Z5K238A
CHROME ROUND EXHAUST TIP
It is now 25% louder, significantly more power, and getting 40mpg hwy... so you can see why I haven't made the move... ?
And... my wife thinks it's cute.

I tried the mbrp on my wife's EcoBoost mustang. Sounded terrible. Had so much drone you couldn't go down the highway. But if you like droan, then that's the one to get.

Really hate to inform you but there is not any mod out there that will get you a 40% increase in mileage. Least of all an exhaust system.

I have to believe some of the numbers people are quoting are on single short trips under ideal conditions, not long term averages. There are just too many variables for you to be able to compare your mileage to anyone elses.

Well, the snipped you responded to was a bit selective and out of context...you could have quoted the rest of my post :p where I mention "of course, this would assume that I could even get back to "normal" mpg with many smaller contributing changes."
Ie it's obviously clear that a single mod will not do that, as mentioned...

I have the same experience. Brought the truck home from the dealer and best I could get was 18 mpg highway and closer to 14-15 city on a stock truck. So I went to C rated 265/70/17 KO2s and lifted the truck to level it and put a ford performance grill on. Still get 14-15 city and 18 highway. I’m running the bigger tires at 37 cold and only use 91 octane. I’m not a lead foot but I don’t like to wait around off the line either. I’m in a really hilly area and most my driving is around town very stop and go so even when I do short stints on the highway it doesn’t impact the mileage significantly. I’ve resigned to the fact that my truck doesn’t sip gas. But it pisses me off.

I have a 2020 FX4, stock tires, no lift, just a tonneau and 24000 mi.
17 to 20 around town, a lot of 3mi. trips will bump it down to 16.

Took it on a trip to Pennsylvania from Florida
Till I got in the mountains it got a high on one tank of 29.5, hand calculated!
70 mph on cruise. The up and down of the mountains Charlotte and north, dropped it to 23.5.
The only thing different was I was running Lucas injection cleaner on every tank on the whole trip
