Returned home from a 2 day adventure that involved 14 hours of driving and nearly 1,400k. About 15 minutes from my destination and check engine light and service lights come on. Info centre says to refer to the manual and service vehicle soon. Power seems low, truck is now struggling to get past 90k/h.

Pull over and turn it off for 5 minutes. Restart it and the lights are off - great. Get 100 feet down the road and everything lights up again.

Struggle to get the truck 15km to the dealership that changed the oil a couple days ago. Open up the FordPass app and see something about the turbo - awesome! Dealer isn’t sure when they can look at this. The recent polar vortex crippled a lot of cars and many service centres are pretty booked up. Service writer asks if I need a rental and immediately coordinates that for me.

Putting kilometres on a 2023 Dodge Ram until this is repaired.

That’s a tough break Dan. Sounds a bit similar to what @LaBalbe just went through.

https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/got-the-little-wrench.27582/

It seemed to be an easy enough fix for him - I hope it’s just as straightforward for you. ?

I can’t imagine the thoughts that race through your mind when those lights come on and it’s -19°C/-2°F. I’m glad you were close to civilization (well, Edmonton, but close enough ;)) when it happened. This story might be a lot different if you were a few hundred kms out in the sticks. I hope they get you back on the road soon. ?

Thanks. Sucks it happened. But, it worked out that it happened when and where it did. My day started hours away from civilization.

I read that thread you posted. It sure sounds like that. I’m glad I still have powertrain warranty.

That sounds EXACTLY like what I went through, Dan. Read through my thread that Duke posted; lots of good leads from the folks round here.
I just read that thread. You had quite the journey!
It does sound like these trucks are going through the same thing. I’ll post updates as I hear from the dealership.

if you have access to a scan tool pulling the code will give you an idea of the severity
Yeah, I have the wireless OBD scanner - stays in the centre console. I didn’t plug it in because of where I was on the highway, and the fact that the dealership was so close. I am curious what other details it would have given though.

Yeah, it was a treat. Hopefully yours will turn out as relatively painless as mine was.

The dealership called today after having the truck inside the shop for the weekend. They inspected for potential trouble/failure and found no issue. When they started the truck, they noted an excessive amount of water coming out through the exhaust. They attribute it to the polar vortex we had. I did drive the truck in -31 - -43 for that week.

I also mentioned some transmission issues. Harsh 3/4 shift, lagging when shift to/from reverse/drive. They completed a TSB for that. I noticed it shifts pretty firm now. Also shifting into drive or reverse has no more lag.

Service advisor told me to keep an eye on things. Has me a little concerned because I do a lot of road trips - 800-1,000km every 2-3 months. I’d hate to have an issue and not be close to civilization, Edmonton or otherwise ?

What's curious is the App said and described a problem yet the dealer saw nothing, that's weird.
Hopefully you have no further problems.

The code was for low boost. They observed a lot of moisture coming from exhaust and attributed it to exhaust being iced up and restricting flow which would cause the low boost code. Could be that the intercooler also iced up and caused the same. Either way after allowing it to thaw out it checked ok and no codes. So they did see something

Glad to hear that yours was an even easier fix than mine. Not too much you can do about temps that cold, and they're bound to cause some sort of issues.
