One thing that people rarely talk about is axle gearing after large tires. I for one tried 33” tires and hated how it effected fuel economy and power. Lost about 5-6 mpg and 10th gear was basically useless. I ended up getting some 31” mud terrains instead of re-gearing the axles. With 35” tires it sure must be a hit on fuel economy, power and wear and tear on the tranny. Gearing can help fix all those things

I think it's rarely talked about because there aren't any parts or info out there yet. As soon as someone has a kit I'll certainly be regearing.

Ahh well that makes sense lol I didn’t realize these have a new style rear end. Have the front and rear axles of this truck never been used before until this truck? Also Hoosier, is not being able to re-gear stopping you from getting 35” tires?

I wish I could help but I'm going strictly off the information in another thread and it doesn't have any testing info with 305s. If I had to guess, you would have rubbing with articulation with that size tire. However, if you're wanting that wide of a tire then presumably you don't do any heavy wheeling so articulation may not be much of an issue.
Yeah I wouldn’t be doing any heavy wheeling just some light stuff whenever I go hunting, camping, etc. However I like the looks of 305s but I feel like they might bottleneck the trucks capabilities. So I might just go with 33s

I don’t know the answer to the first question, I’m not sure if anyone has really done the homework. I’m too cautious though so until someone has a regear kit that specifically says it’s made for us, I’ll stay put.
No, I plan to move up to 285/75-17 which are around 33.9”, that’ll be more than enough for me but even at that I’d like regear to get some of the power and longevity back.

Goodluck, I'm running a 295/70R17 which measures 33.6x12.0" and its has a good bit of trimming and still rubs 3/4-full lock. My wheel is a 17x8+5mm, I have Fox 2.5 Race coil-overs, and I'm going to have to trim even more and turn the preload up some.

With +20 offset and the tire being 11.3” wide I suspect I’ll have much less of an issue. I have tons of room with the 33” KO2s I currently run, even fully flexed. Your 5mm offsets aren’t doing you any favors. 20-30 is ideal for the Ranger. I also have extra clearance up front with my warn bumper.

Not many wheels offer that offset and even so, its still less than half an inch (0.5") less than what I'm running... Also the front isn't the issue its the rear. Also what's your complete wheel spec?

It doesn’t seem like enough to make much difference but from reading on here, people seem to have more issues as they approach 0 offset.

I’m talking specifically the front tires will rub in the rear of the front wheel wells.

Not really alot of trimming with 295/70/17. Depends on the offset you chose. I've been running 295's on 17x9 -12's since May of '19 with out major issues. Even under full flex off road I have Slight rubbing that's been minimum. Now if you want to keep the crash bars and block attached behind the tire then that's a horse of a different color.

Can you post a picture of your Ranger? I'm in the hunt for a wheel for my 295/70/17 Nitto Grapphler G2.
