33s...would you do it again?

Hello everyone, I am ordering new tires this week. I currently have 265/70R17 (31.6”) and have been happy with a mpg/performance aspect, but like the looks of the 285/70R17 (32.8”) tires.

For those who have 33s, would you do it again? Mpg isn’t much of a concern, but the performance of this truck and my enjoyment driving it is important. Was there a big performance decrease when moving up to that size tire?

For what its worth I would be going with a passenger rated Toyo AT3 which weights roughly 48 pounds, which to my understanding is pretty lightweight for a 33.

Performance wise this thing boogies unless I'm racing a Tesla or TRX.
But I wish I had bought 35's.
Next are 37's if 39's don't fit.
And for 33's I have KO2'S in E which are bulletproof. Only other brand I would run are toyos I like the at3's and at2's. The at3's would be a solid choice for a daily driver mostly on road. I've had 33's for over a year and when I floor it, the front lifts up, the rear squats, and the whole truck twists to the right, just can't get the tires to grip, but I don't.have it setup to drag race, which is cool too but I love my all terrains.

I had a lifted gmc with 33s and getting around 14mpg with the v6.

traded it in for the tremor and VERY happy with the factory 32s AT. Currently getting around 20mpg and at gas around $5/gallon here in California, I'm more than happy with my "tiny" 32s !!

I have 255/80r17 Cooper ST Maxx and they're awesome. I'd add those to your list. I've had the wildpeaks in the past and they're good too but the Coopers have tougher sidewalls and a more aggressive tread. I think Duratracs and the wildpeaks are pretty comparable. They both kick ass in the snow if you care about that. I think I still average about 17-18 mpg with those, 3" lift and steel skids on 87 octane. I can get 19mpg on 91 octane if i drive gentle.

The Coopers were a close choice but I went with AT3s in 255/80/17s.
the Toyos are badass in the snow but I haven’t heard much about the Coopers in the snow

Keeping this thread alive, even if it's just for fun at this point. Team 33 for about a month and loving it so far, no plans to go smaller any time soon. Initially had a tiny bit of rubbing on the little plastic covers full lock in reverse. Removed the covers and all is good.

Anyone running 255/80/17 with a 2" front level AND wheel spacers? Don't really want to tempt fate but even a 1" spacer would look pretty good I think.

Big nope..ran 33s on my now traded gmc canyon (6" rc lift). Really stressed the v6 engine and gas mileage went down the toilet. Got compliments all the time but as a daily driver, it wasn't practical. I could have spent more $$$ on re tuning the tranny but in the end, got tired of spending money on the mods.

Got good dough with recent trade in so the rest is history. Love my tremor and averaging around 21mpg so happy camper. With gas over $5/g here in California, very happy with the 32s on my tremor.

I mean you are trying to compare 2 different trucks with 2 different motors and 2 different gearings. Apples to oranges IMO.

For OP - Our trucks are quick from factory but these are not performance cars. I am on 33" KO2s and still dust Tacomas stoplight to stoplight as well as any commuter car on the road. Throw on a tune from Ford Perfomance or Livernois and add another 40-50hp and 60-70tq. That will more than account for any loss with bigger tires.

Throw on the 33s and a tune and don't look back.

I have the 255/80r17 Toyo ATIII and 1" wheel spacers. Tiny bit of rub once. Though my front crash bars are gone now because I have a winch and bumper.

I average 17 and have a heavy foot. I am about 60/40 mix surface street highway driving during my commute.

I took my truck up to Idaho from San Diego this year and saw mid 19 on the highways. I saw you get 21 on your Tremor - that is impressive! I got that stock

Since then I put aftermarket 17 inch wheels on with +18 offset, which brought the stance in slightly narrower, but I plan on buying wider tires when or if I finally wear out the Cooper MAXXes.

That's my next mod, I need to add a FPP tuned. I love my 33s with a 3.5 inch lift without the tuned my Ranger is still fast.

I really wanted to do 33" but thanks to all the forum members posts I went with a 31.9" tire Cooper Wild Trek 265/70/17 with Eibachs at 2.5" and Icon UCA. Dropped about 2 mpg but very happy the results. Thanks to all here helping me figure out how far the lifted truck rabbit hole I was willing to jump down.
