Surprised by my gas mileage

This is what i've been getting since putting on a cover with 87 octane on a 2wd truck.

Mostly flat Florida with a bit of traffic.

I’m in a ‘21 super crew STX FX4. Fox coil overs (level kit), 32” Toyos, running 91-93 octane. Driving easy I got 23 (hand calculated). Driving normal I average 21.5-22. Towing about 3300lbs, climbing about 5,000 foot elevation both ways, round trip 190 miles (highway and dirt) I am averaging 17.5.

I’m surprised that I’m getting over 50mpg out of my FJR, It looks like keeping it under 80mph makes a huge difference.
My truck still gets 20mpg but it’s mostly around town driving.

Recent trip in my 2022 Screw, XLT, FX4, 4x4 from CT to VA, Shell 87 octane, 27.8 mpg. Adaptive cruise set, 72mph, AC on. Impressive I took I-84 to I-81 south, lots of grades too, impressive.

I was really surprised by mine on this trip. I filled up in Flagstaff, AZ and made it to Durango, CO and got 26.7 mpg. What's even more impressive (I thought) was I still had 133 miles to E.

There are many elevation changes along the way and my average speed was 75 mph. At one point I was averaging 28.2 but that was only 161 miles into the trip. There was a lot of elevation changes after Monument Valley into Durango but I'm really happy with what I've been averaging along the way. I confirmed this when I added it to my Fuely app and it was 26.5.

I'm taking my truck in next week to address a misfire issue. It's gotta be messing with my mileage too. From Oklahoma to South Dakota and back at 75mph I average less than 20mpg

I find these numbers interesting. Unloaded on flat roads with highway driving, and hand calculated I see 23mpg in my ‘21 2wd SCAB. I do not push the truck, and the roads are mostly 55mph around here.

Yep I had 96 to empty at 1/4 tank. I never knew the tanks are only 18 gallons, would be sweet if they were 20. I found the sweet spot is below 2000 rpm's, gas mileage falls off above that. Like all of us the cost of fuel has fit me intensely interested in economy. My trip cost me more than it did in my F-250 diesel just a couple of years ago!

It would been nice if we had a little larger of a tank, 20-22 would've been perfect. You're right anything 2000 rpm's or below is the optimal spot to be but there were many times I was above that going up step grades. I guess that's why I was more surprised when I averaged 26.5 and even the last 4 fillips have all been between 24-25 mpg out here.

Yeah this trips fuel budget was blown when gas hit $4.00/gal. When I stated planning this it was still in the $2.50 range and most of my fills ups have been $5.00-$5.49 now. But the fun times and memories are worth it. At least that's what I keep telling myself now.?

Don't forget the damper too Daniel. That's gotta be good for an extra 1-2 mpg. lol ?

What would really be cool is if you hit your remote and the gate dropped slowly with the damper. My truck only has a remote unlock. Now if that triggered the release we'd be talking!
