Interesting. This type of discussion came up years ago back in the mid-90s.... Some report mentioned that it's better to idle for anything under 60s of time and to turn the engine off for anything over that.... but obviously "cleaner" starts have changed the game.

Purchased and installed a plug and play module that remembers last setting on startup. Works great....

I thought about adding the $100 module when I bought my truck but after driving it for 4 months I decided not to. I got used to it and just turn it off or use S mode if it becomes a problem when in a traffic jam. It's no longer a big deal for me and there are some benefits. I have other things to spend the $ on, like good cigars.

I have owned my ranger a little over two years and just discovered while rambling through the menus' under vehicle that there is a check box where you can disable the start and stop ,just put a check in the box and all is well. some of you probably already knew this .

I understand your concern on that, but for me a system that would be able to make a smarter decision and not just disable the S/S for the next 20 min because you aren't moving fast enough to quantify an actual cycle as it stands now. I've had it happen frequently where you pull up, S/S engages, you disengage, traffic doesn't move due to unexpected road stupidity ahead, you end up sitting around extra lights, all the while the system is now burning gas instead of being stopped, and in theory there shouldn't be a restraint from the system being able to safely stop other then that preventative built in. If I am in crawling traffic, I've found the sweet spot on the brake where I can stop the truck and it wont S/S, I also use that spot to pre start the truck if I know the light is changing.

Don't think it lets you turn it off, just tells you why its not working.

The Auto Start-Stop and Damper discussions are alike...they are continuous and will never end with new threads popping up all the time...we might as well get used to it and have some fun with them!

Can not believe this. This has been a hot button issue since day one and this was not found until now!

Here is where The stop start is in the menus.

That setting is NOT for Auto/Stop/Start.

It is for the timeout for engine idling. For example, you turn this off when you leave the engine running for a Sync or Nav update so it will not shut down.

It will be reactivated on the next ignition cycle.

I've had that checked since I bought mine and it does NOT disable A/S/S.
