I went and checked for updates by my Vin. Sync said up to date checked the map updates 1 available but I have to purchase. The option to download for free is gone my truck is a 22 my. So guess they don't support past 3/36. And that sucks as nav was a $1k option.
If you want to update, just use the CyanLabs updater - it is honestly WAY better than the Ford updater and it is free too.

Apple maps don't help me, I'm an android user. I can use Google maps but I prefer the factory nav as I like it on the screen. And I'm not a fan of android auto just don't like it. So I'm stuck with my outdated maps and check the phone when a problem arises. Cuz I'm too cheap to pay $109 for a map update. Shame on Ford. But this isn't as bad as the 26 explorer ST. After 8 years you have to repurchase the connectivity package to keep using the features so it will get traded off at 6 years old for a technology less vehicle. The world has gone MAD MAD I tell ya.😁😁😁
Here is what I got off of the Ford web site:

What functionalities do I lose when my Ford Premium Connectivity subscription duration ends?
Having Ford Premium Connectivity available in your vehicle will provide you with the best possible experience. If connectivity is no longer available, some features within the Ford Digital Experience will no longer function at all or the same as before.

Without connectivity, the following changes will happen to in-vehicle features:
· Google Maps will not provide real time traffic data or have the ability to download new offline maps
· With Google Assistant, you can control local vehicle controls such as playing the radio and adjusting the climate controls while keeping your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel
· Google Play is not available without connectivity
· Alexa will still be available for use if you are within the complimentary three-year trial of Alexa Built-in. Enhanced Alexa Built-in functionality such as streaming music, flash briefings, long form news, and in-vehicle games through Alexa will not be available without Ford Premium Connectivity or another connectivity source

Once your Ford Premium Connectivity subscription ends, you can continue your connected experience by connecting your vehicle to the internet through a Wi-Fi hotspot such as your phone when you are on the go or a stationary Wi-Fi source such as your home internet when parked.

There is a member on the ST forum that cant get past the message on the screen telling him to call and purchase the connectivity package. I've made up my mind I won't own that vehicle long enough to deal with it. Already see that purchase as a total mistake and have a customer complaint case with Ford because the hands free does not work for music or calls. Total mistake buying another Ford product.

I'd yank the Sync system and go with an aftermarket unit if I had to pay. I would miss FordPass though.

I put an aftermarket unit in my daughters 2003 Honda since the screen pretty much crapped out. I was surprised how well it works - factory wiring connections, the fit was pretty good (not perfect, but pretty good) and it controls pretty much everything the old screen did. It was only like $250 too!

If my head unit ever fails that is what I'll be doing.

It is very hard to bypass the apim in these trucks. It ties in to everything. The easiest way is a very expensive tablet type system that incorporates the processing of the apim.

I've been poking around over there and am not finding any map updates only sync.
It looks like things have changed a bit since I used it last. It looks like there is some new "protection" for APIMs built after 2019 (ESN Locked). It sounds like you can still do it by disabling MY20 protection but that would make me a bit nervous honestly.

I forgot what map version I have - I think it might be 2020 - I haven't updated in quite a while. I honestly use Google Maps for most things - sometimes I will use the built in nav but I find other phone based nav is honestly better and more accurate (time, routing, etc).

If you disable MY2020 protections to install new maps, it will reformat the unit, leaving you with a bricked APIM.
