Hey Steve! Good seeing you. I noticed a few only 2020’s it’s happening on too I believe.

Situation is quite sad. Just getting ready to pay up to get it fixed
Did it damage any wiring or fan when the belt came off?

Not that I can tell. But I found the piece while looking around. Although my charging system service light came on, and water coolant light. Not sure how cars work enough to know if that’s related to the tensioner/belt system or if it broke something else.

You have to remember that on a majority of vehicles out there, the water pump, cooling fan and alternator are usually driven off the serpentine belt. If you loose the belt or tensioner, you can loose those things easily causing a charging system fault and an engine overheat.

That makes sense. Figured the belt was tied to those systems. Appreciate you chiming in with the knowledge Frenchy! Good to see you too.

Hey Brandon,

That really sucks - as Steve said, this has happened to others. I take it you’re out of warranty. :(

So, what major part of the engine is that supposed to be attached to? Water pump? Timing belt cover? Something else? I’d go look at my truck but I’m glued to a beach chair. 😝

Also………

Maybe the tariffs at the time caused Ford or its suppliers to change aluminum providers and there was a QC issue? Do you know if these are cast or cold-forged? Maybe some other process?

I don't think there has been a single instance of this happening on a model year other than 2020.

Well, however they’re made, they sure can’t handle the mighty 2.3’s torque. ;)

Brandon - what’s the anticipated length of your downtime? Any idea?

Good thing the Tariffs were not the cause then as the Tariffs were nowhere near as high then.
