EGR DPFE Sensor Assembly Replacement Write-Up (LB5Z-9J433-B)

Bastards! I just ordered the sensor, whether I need it or not. I'll probably procrastinate putting it on, but at least I'll have it on hand if I really need it.

I purchased mine about a year ago and finally installed it yesterday. Shifts are much better on the low gears. Found condensation in the hose and the sensor.
I didn’t think I had much of an issue so I put it off but all this recent talk made me curious.

I was in Florida when I bought my '19 with 12K miles, I suspect that issue was why it was traded. I moved to north GA and bought the DPFE in May of 23 when I learned of the fix. I had to do it again a year later and suspect it is a hot weather problem. I am not driving it as much as I did, it only has 60K miles on it now and so far it has not needed a third one. I intend to sell it in October and get a Gen6 Lariat

Went to go replace my sensor and it appears to be much deeper in the engine bay and significantly more obstructed than in the pictures here. Virtually impossible to reach down into the bay to find the hoses. Anyone else have a much more obstructed view and approach compared to the instructional pictures originally posted?

Nick, it is visible under the larger hose, just to the left (in the photo) of the brake booster. Single nut over the bolt, rectangular body, connector with the lock piece behind it, and the two hoses under it.

Ignore/forgive me, I was being a little bit of a wuss. I’m new to working on my own cars so I was a bit nervous to get in there and start pulling stuff apart. As soon as I did it was quite easy to do. Appreciate your help

Thank you!! Did it tonight - Very smooth thanks to your pictures and tips.

I usually drive in tow or sport, but when I do use standard drive, I was starting to notice some bucking coming on in the first few shifts. Fast forward another 2K miles or so and check engine light comes on - P0402.

P0402 is now cleared and I believe I could tell a difference right away particularly in the low gears in normal drive mode.

You may be on to something!
An Inline desiccant would probably do the trick. Put it in a clear filter "T'ed into the inlet hose. I have a large bag of the reusable modules the size of BBs and have an old clear hard plastic inline gas filter. The modules are blue when dry and turn pink when full of moisture.

I may rig one up once I'm cleared by my surgeon to used my neck again! Should be an easy test to see if it is worth while.

I'll use a different hose as I don't wish to sacrifice the original if this fails.

It may be a while before I can get to it. Waiting on bone to grow over my replacement discs in my neck. In a brace for at least 6 weeks, and the doc tells me you are not completely good as new for a year. So it will be a while before I can work on it.

BTW, Just got the bill! Those replacement discs were $28K each! And I got a pair installed.

Yep, total bill for "surgery only" was $81K. In and out the same day. Under for 1.5 hours.

This doesn't cover visits and PT that is coming up. I go back in 6 days to assess my status and remove the patch over my throat. Still in a neck brace for at least 6 weeks, then 3-6 months of minor movement allowed with PT. Fully healed in 9-12 months if all goes well.

I have to say that it is nice to feel my fingers again! If I had not had surgery I would have eventually lost function of my left arm, followed by my right one.

Surgical choices were fuse 3 vertebrae, or disc replacement in 2. Disc replacement offered the best opportunity to keep range of motion. Neither were fun. I now have a 2" bragging scar in my throat!

The last week has been rough, but you get used to it. Turn off the pain by simply ignoring it and focusing on something else. This has always worked for me. I am tired of sleeping upright with the neck brace on 24/7. No head movement, no lifting anything over 5lbs. This is my reality for the next few months.

It could be a lot worse. God let me stick around a while longer. And my dear wife dotes on me constantly. I am a lucky and blessed man!

I got a bill with one line item for my vitrectomy for about $3100. It took longer than 1.5 hours but there was a lot of prep and wait time. The surgery itself took about 45 minutes. The eye is very clear now, but damn, it needed a significant prescription change. I am largely reliant on my other eye if not wearing glasses. And it has floaters too.
