Yes sir, I am replacing the truck today
Speaking of, I just got back from the dealer.

With what they'll give me on my trade in ($26,500 for a 2022 SCrew Lariat with 67K miles, carvana was $25,800), I can get a new XLT with the FX4 package for $15K out the door. If I add a VSC that runs to 150K miles ($3800) and the dealers service package (free oil changes, tire rotations and a free detail once a year for a one time $1295 fee), I'm looking at about $21K out the door.

I think I might pull the trigger. Researching the new trans and 6g now.

FYI, I'd check the price on the extended warranty at Granger - they typically sell for something like $50 over cost, usually WAY cheaper than a dealer will sell them for.

I picked up a 22' Gladiator Mojave with 25k miles for 35k today. Got 28k for my 20' Ranger with 30k miles

Got 28k for my truck, look around. I've had as low as 22k offers. Not sure why some dealers are so stingy.

What tool you guys use to siphon the trans fluid out of the mbs dipstick? I had it installed and looks like my level is extremely high on the new trans. Seeing bubbles in the fluid. Just drove 10ish miles from work back home, temps hit 190 on trans but looks like it’s well above the range expected, Like reading above the 1 on the tab with hot fluid. I’d expect it to get a bit higher when it hits 215 operating temp.

edit: NVM found a siphon. Knew I had one. Will see if this improves it tomorrow. Will report back.

You might find this info handy. Link 1 and Link 2. Makes validating fluid level easy.

You can validate the fluid level when cold.

- Have truck on level ground
- Start truck, then run through the gears at 5 second intervals - Park to Sport and back to back to Park.
- Immediately check fluid level. It should be just showing on the tip of the dipstick, 1/8" - 3/16", 1/4" at the very most.
Link 1 shows where the fluid levels should be on the MBS dipstick at various temps (and times from start of the engine.) Those measurements are equal to the fluid temp reading dead center on the Diamond between 4 and 5 at 215F.

215F is at Ford's upper temp limit to measure, and the diamond is dead center in the level between 4 and 5 ( the Upper and Lower limits on the dipstick).

It is very easy to overfill the transmission. And being over filled is just as bad as being under filled.

I would advise using LubeGard Platinum as well. I had serious transmission problems beginning at 5K miles and becoming progressively worse until I parked the truck at 18K miles. I followed the advice of tow member on this forum and replaced the fluid, and added LubeGard Platinum.

I'm at >27K miles now without a problem. That's ~10K trouble free miles. As soon as I have the first symptom of trouble I will be changing the fluid again or at 15K or 20K intervals. Fluid is a lot cheaper than a transmission.

Best of luck!

Hello - So May of 2 years ago, my 2019 had a complete transmission rebuild at ~34K, posted here:

https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/transmission-repair-work-order.25518/

Now, just about exactly 2 years later at ~53K, transmission is once again starting to hitch going into second, exactly what it started doing prior to eventually going to sh*t and getting rebuilt in 2023.

I know I'm under warranty until 60K. Has anyone here gone through multiple iterations of transmission failure under warranty? What eventually happens? Does Ford just continue to repair it until you're out of warranty and then you're S-O-L?

Is this where you start to look for a class action lawsuit to join? So frustrated.

Would love to get some input on this, thanks in advance folks.

I've attached the original repair order redacted, if interested.
the only way to eliminate this problem is to upgrade the valve body NexGen .com the factory valve body's suck a new transmission wont solve this problem

Yeah, I reached out to NexGen through their email to get more information on their valve bodies they never replied, that was over a week ago.

I’ll give him a call this week

I miss my Ranger, but I don't miss the anxiety of owning it. Just had 30k miles, but I convinced myself that trans would crap out soon. It did shift hard in normal, but in sport it seemed to be better. I'm also glad to be back in a non-turbo vehicle.

Hopefully we get back to the day of n/a ICE engines in trucks again. My 93' Ranger ran like a top, never a problem, and was a glorious manual transmission.

Dude the previous gen Rangers just never die. I was skeptical of the 2.3L but saw nothing but praise and that it was bullet proof. I thought I just need to worry about the trans, otherwise this is a bullet proof truck.....then 50k miles a rod bearing starts a knocking. Since the engine is basically new, I just hope if my trans does act up it goes out before my extended runs out. I will be actually relieved once that happens since my trans predates the updated CDF drum.

60k miles and no trans issues, we'll see. Otherwise, I LOVE this truck. Super happy with the tech in it, don't need anything else. Even putting in a Mishimoto rad and intercooler in it so this new engine has the best chance at life.

I agree, I love my Ranger engine, especially with the Ford Performance tune installed. This is my 4th Ranger, from 1996 on, two 2/3Ls and a 3.0L (all manuals until the '19). Every single one has been bullet proof as you said.

I still have my '99 3.0L I use as a back up, has 180K on it and runs like the proverbial top.

I kept my 2005 4.0L for exactly the same reasons. Much more refined driving experience than my 2020 Ranger. It doesn't get the MPG, but if I had to part with a Ranger, I'd keep the 2005 over the 2020. Easier and less expensive to repair, it doesn't Nanny spy on me, and it is far more reliable.

My 96 Ranger went to my father for 10 years, before I gave it to his caretaker to use on her farm. As far as I know it's still on the road.

It was the 2005 or so Ranger FX4 Level II package that made me want the Tremor package when it came out. I was too early in my career to buy the truck then. I have toyed with the idea of removing Tremor and putting custom FX4 Level II decals on the back.
