I just stumbled on some 3/8" hose in my stash of crap. It's not a tight fit in the red hose from HF. Possibly with some oil it would seal ok. But doubt it. Maybe it's old and shrank a little. Not gonna try it. Gonna try to and return the unused HF pump. If I can't, the Goodwill store is right next door, so...
Mean time I remembered I had this, and all I need is some longer hose. It's many years old. A NAPA, Balkamp automotive service, brake bleed kit. It doesn't move a lot of volume, but is super heavy duty and can create some decent vacuum or pressure.

Ok, just sucked out approx. 14oz of fluid as according to the Fitzstick I was slightly over-filled. I was a little surprised at how dark the fluid was. If you recall, I had the tranny flushed at ~55k, they severely over-filled it, took it back and they seemed to get the level right. Trans has been functioning very well after that and a 15oz bottle of Lubeguard. (which may be why it was slightly over-filled).
But dang, after only about 10k since the flush, it seems awfully dark. But this is BG fluid, with a bottle of LG added. Is BG fluid darker? Should I be concerned? Like I said, it has been shifting pretty well.
First in sunlight.

My trans started to misbehave at 5k miles. By 12K I knew that I had a serious problem. By 18k i was ready to unload it. When I drained the fluid it was black as coal! I've changed it 3 times in the last 7K miles to get me to ~90% new fluid. Each time with LubeGard Platinum. The last 7K miles the trans has behaved itself, but I still wonder how much wear has been done to the clutches.

My advice, change the fluid at 20K mile intervals, or at the first sign of trouble, whichever comes first. I admit that I am gun shy!

DM sent,

If I told you the comical conversations that have been going on between the F150 forum sponsor guy and myself, you would think I was making it up, I am so glad the admin and mods here are cool.

Bigger truck, bigger problems
I finally had the opportunity to park beside a 4G Ranger, it was even a white extended cab just like mine. I wish I had taken a picture of it, didn't think about it at the time. It was good to see the actual difference in size. I like the size of the 5G, just a little more beef without being too big. Of course, older F150s weren't as big as todays behemoths, either.

I've been on that forum (F150Gen14) for over a year and there have been conversations about us (F-150 owners) wanting/needing a trans dipstick. That worthless little plastic piece of crap from the factory is a joke !! I really hope the admin and/or mods let you join us ASAP !!! It really makes me wonder what they're afraid of ?? The whole point of these forums, in general, is getting a bunch of like minded folks together so we can enjoy and improve our experiences with our chosen vehicle. And if 1 person can improve a seriously lacking maintenance tool, let them help the rest of us !!

I just changed the oil in both Rangers. Putting them on a lift highlights the differences in size! I can't raise my 2020 Ranger as high as I can the 2005 Ranger. I'm spoiled using my oil drain dolly and can't get it under my 2020 Ranger! I should have gone with 15' ceilings on my detached work garage!
