Manual vs Automatic Transmission

My Jeep is a 5 speed manual and is a lot of fun to drive.

Would I want to daily drive it in traffic?

Probably not.

But on a nice sunny day with the top off and just cruising either on the backroads or through the trails, it is pure bliss.

i'm good with the automatic in this truck out of the 11 or 12 vehicles ive had my ranger is the 2nd automatic. every once in awhile i get the itch to go back to a manual i'll go test drive one I tested a 24 Tacoma and a 25 Mazda 3 hatch.

Loved the manual in my 73 Bronco, although it was a 3 on the tree. When I developed back issues, it was very painful pushing in the clutch on my Dakota. There were times I used my right foot, just to get home. it was fun while it lasted, I'll always buy an auto though. I am open to driving someone else's standard if offered.

Automatics are nice in traffic. But if the Ranger had a manual option that’s the box I’d have checked.

And for the record, at 65 I ain’t no young’un anymore either. Knees ache every damn day. (Youth sure was fun though! ) But I still love driving a stick. Whenever I drive the wife’s Focus ST I can’t help but smile. Manuals just connect you with the vehicle.

I wouldn't want one in my DD but boy if I ever break down and buy another Vette you can bet it'll be a stick!

Manuals are great until you get stuck in stop and go traffic - or your knees start showing their age. I drove manuals for years - my 73 Capri still has one so I don't have to forget how to drive one. I love the auto in this truck. My last Ranger had a 5 speed but my knees couldn't handle it in traffic for a daily driver.

Got a bad knee too. Still love the 5 & 6 spd manuals. The only thing I not doing well with the knee is kneeling in Church.

That being said, if the Ranger had a manual option, I'd probably still go with the auto as I would feel more comfortable off road with my limited experience. Plus, since I tore my Achilles, my "clutch foot" gets sore and swollen pretty easily .

I’ve had a mix of both over the decades even a couple with paddle shifters. My previous Rangers were all 5-spd manuals.

It was mostly my company cars that were automatics. For me, the sportier the car, the more I lean toward wanting a stick. With my Ranger, I’m fine with an automatic but if it came with a manual option, I likely would have chosen that.

In my Passat, I would use Sport mode but almost never used the paddle shifters. In my Smart fortwo, all the freakin’ time because it’s just like an F1 car, no?
