Long story short
Valves sticking, "skipping" on clutch. Local dealer recommended new trans.
$10880

No rebuild quote. Asked for one. Waiting on that call now.

Took truck in for trans slipping, bucking, faling out of gear behavior I didnt know was an issue until after I left. Told them I needed fluid and filter and probably some diagnostics. 3.5hrs later as I'm paying for the fluid change, tech mentions that I "should bring it back in for diagnostics. Nothing changed."
I got pissed and passive aggressive and left a Google review. Was given a free loaner while they had the truck for diagnostics ans told that Ford and the dealer would work with me on a solution.

Got the call today with info at the beginning of the post, was told that Ford coverage ends at 100k. I'm livid.

I can't afford 11k for a new trans. Shit, I can't afford half that. That's why I have a ranger not a 150...
What are my options? Help?

You can look to buy the transmission yourself and install it. @Loweredon33s was able to do that for about $3000. Otherwise, try and find a transmission shop around you for a second quote.

With it being out of warranty go to a reputable transmission shop and have them handle it. You can count on it being cheaper. You said they told you 100k on warranty that is news I thought powertrain warranty was 5 years and 60k miles. Did you have extended warranty?

Not to hijack the thread, and I am not an expert by any means, but could you theoretically have a shop install one of the two following options to beef up/prevent further issues from happening?

https://www.sonnax.com/parts/5781-cdf-drum-saver-kit

https://nextgendiesel.com/collections/ford-transmissions-transmission-parts/products/10r80-cherry-bomb™-complete-input-drum-assembly-drop-in?variant=42220439666861

https://nextgendiesel.com/collectio...-d-f-drum-assembly-w-anti-walk-bushing-update

My transmission hasn't shown any issues, but its nice to know what options are on the table if something like this happens. Sorry to hear, OP

It is kind of cool to see what is possible/the peace of mind you can get if one were to go this route!

I have 31k on my 2020, what should I do to prevent this from happening to me ?
Change your fluid and filter. I do mine every 30,000 miles.

I would lying if I said I wasn’t concerned
Its not as big an issue as this forum would make you think. It happens, but this transmission is in a lot of vehicles. Deal with it, if it happens.

That one piques my interest too.

Here you go. Find a cheap used low mileage one and either swap it yourself or find some independent shop to do it. If you can get it cheap enough, see what they would charge to update the CDF drum, outer shell and valve body on the used one. Or check EBAY

You see many on here with 100k miles and no issues and some with less than 10k miles and having troubles. Get a Fitz Stik installed so you can check your fluid level and change trans fluid before it gets many miles on it. 20k miles or so. Many guys on here recommend putting LubeGard in when it is changed. I have installed the Fitz and only have 15k miles on mine but will use the LubeGard when I do.
