all well, thanks anyway for explaing the technical details. now at least I understand why it's not possible.

one more thing if you guys don't mind, this is really getting off topic but......

do you think it's possible to do a manual swap on these trucks? not that I dont love the 10r80, I do, but I noticed that the mustang also used the same transmission and also had a manual option. do you think it's possible to swap it with one of those manual transmissions, or any manual transmission at all?

Throw the truck in reverse to see the backup camera. I think there is a thread on that here somewhere.
Edit-found it

I set it on auto and let it switch for me...works great!
I agree, but I wish it work before it gets really dark. Just last week while driving home on the backroads it was dark enough to use high beams but not dark enough to come on automatically, so I switched them on manually and instantly saw three deer on or near the road in front of me.

When I built my 33 Hot Rod the Ididit column I used didn't have a high/low switch in the column and they didn't offer a retrofit. I wound up picking up a floor switch at O'Reilly's. The foot box is small in the 33 and I had to mount it under the clutch pedal. That was really inconvenient so I put a switch on the dash but I really wish I could get an integrated switch for the column.

The foot switch on my 68 Barracuda works well but you don't have the flash option.

Must be a Millennial, too young to remember the foot switch.
We had a Nash Rambler when I was young that had a foot activated window washer. I remember getting in the driver's seat when mom was in getting groceries. I learned how to use the window washer. It's aim was way off. A guy parked next to us was getting into his car and I hit the foot pump. Guy was pissed and looking in all directions trying to figure out where the wet neck came from!

It's not a simple switch - Power & Ground to switch Low to High Beams.
It's an input signal on the Can Bus; it's looking for a momentary pulse (signal) along the bus
SCCM to GWM via (HS-Can 2) then GWM to BCM via (HS-Can 1)
It is wired this way due to Auto (High-Beam) feature & Auto-Lamps
Not a problem... just go old school and put a foot switch on the floor to the far left of the brake peddle... step on it, it sends the required pulse, everybody lives happily ever after... :>)

Foot switch was standard on US cars till... humm late '70s/early '80s

Did you know the 1967 Lincoln Continental could have 2 foot buttons, one to toggle the high beams, the other to scan to the next radio station with reception. So much high tech in the 60s. Scanning radios, auto high beams, cruise control, power locks, windows, seats and steering, variable speed wipers and even auto climate control!!!!. I didn't have a car able to have all those features again until I got the 21 Ranger. It could have been 2016 if the RS could have had the EU headlights lights in the US back then, but they were not.

My 68 Barracuda has two buttons on the floor; one for high/low beams and the other for the windshield washer.
